Ok, let me put it more plainly: In what way did Trump "drain the swamp"? Can you point to any specific actions he took that accomplished that goal?

One great thing he did is implement an executive order to cut two regulations for every one new regulation that was enacted.  Kind of circumventing the swamp I guess.  I did read one article about him taking an ax to one of the bureaucracies during his term.  Can't remember which one or the details.  Overall, I was just too frustrated with the stupid Republican House stabbing him in the back every chance they got.

Looks like they're basically going with what the GEFS shows. The 12z Euro is quite a bit cooler for the mid section of the country.

    Not for the PNW, though.

I think week two is a toss up.  We have had no problem coming up with chilly clippers and cold troughs this season so the ECMWF might be wrong.

The starting point and end point always matter with these trend things.

Parts of the East were miserable for snowfall in the late 1940s to late 1950s. And those same areas did really well in the 2002-2015 period. So if you made a trend from 1950 to 2010, it would look way better for much of the East.

So very true.  In general 1975 through 2005 was awful for the NW, in spite of some great Arctic blasts and a few snowy winters.  The last 10 years have been far better so the map makes sense.

Trump in 2016: "I alone can fix Washington DC."

Trump in 2020: "I alone can fix Washington DC."

Trump in 2024: "Send me back. I alone can fix Washington DC."

Sooner or later, you have to realize that either he alone can't do diddly squat or he is straight up lying to you. In agreement with your second point, it's apparent that the swamp will never be drained but he didn't really try, now did he? To frame Trump as some sort of anti-swamp hero, like Stormy was trying to do, is just completely false. He is now as much a part of the swamp as anybody else in that town.

He did an incredible amount considering the head winds he was facing.  With a Congress willing to work with him it could be amazing.

Just as a reminder for those who weren't around here back then and think I'm just some closet Democrat, like Andrew wants to paint me as: I was a huge Trump supporter in 2016 (and I reluctantly voted for him again in 2020). I was onboard the #TrumpTrain from the moment it left the station in 2015. I thought we had a chance to get a political outsider into DC who would just blow stuff up, which I thought we needed. Instead we got a weak-minded, narcissistic, egotistical moron who couldn't get out of his own way. I liked many of the policies he put into place but good Lord Almighty every policy win was completely overshadowed by whatever crazy crap he said that day.

If I had to look back on a 'last straw' moment it was probably when he went after General Mattis, calling him the "world's most overrated general" simply because Mattis came out and said some stuff about Trump that he didn't like. Like seriously dude?! You are going to question the patriotism of someone who has been in the military for almost their entire life while you got out of the draft because of "bone spurs" in your heel? Get the hell outta here with that.

I think you are kind of off the mark here.  It all boils down to how the idiot Republicans in Congress completely stymied everything Trump tried to get accomplished.  The Republicans could have implemented huge changes in that year, and they chose to cave to the putrid/corrupt establishment.  I'll never forget how dismayed Rush Limbaugh was during that time.

I honestly don't know if there is any chance of pulling ourselves back from the abyss now, but it's possible.

As for the Generals Trump criticized...they had it coming.  It just blows my mind how many of them have an America last mindset.  I have tons of respect for our men and women in uniform, but the upper echelons have been corrupted by power.

Well her district does have a Partisan lean of D+30. So essentially it's filled with the kinds of people who want to give the worst ideas from a failed state (Somali) a try. We're talking about a woman who would have probably been the victim of horrific cultural practices if she had not immigrated to America, yet she hates us anyways.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I still can't believe what a wild year that was. Between the riots and the weird pandemic stuff... I think he was pretty caught off guard by it all. I don't think he will hesitate to send the military into Portland or Seattle this time around.

2020 still leaves a horrible taste in my mouth.  I still can't wrap my head around the sheit the local governing bodies in this country tolerated during that.  About the only punishment that was given to anyone was dished out by a 17 year old kid.

I will never forgive the Democrats for what they allowed in that horrible year.  It's a big part of what drove my friend to off himself.

To me it's so odd that a bunch of lunatics from Somalia chose one of the coldest places in the United States to set up shop, but that's a completely different topic.

    It’s NOT raining!

Oh and there is a January 1950 redux incoming.

I think this is going to be a very enjoyable year.  Incredibly SEA has totally defied the odds and is running below normal for March 1 to present.  Could be a first coming out of a major El Nino winter.

    Very impressive PNA forecast BTW.

I agree on the gloom part... but for me the cold max is just insult to injury.    I actually don't mind 60s and rain in the warm season.   I can do without 40s.  😃

Looks like we might put up a couple more lows in the 30s this week before the warmth comes.

One thing about this very cool weather is it doesn't bode well for the mid section of the country at all.  These cold troughs in the NW have been the fuel for the severe weather there.

Yes... overall its been decent.   The last couple weeks have been crappy though.    Par for the course.  There are probably 1 or 2 more periods like this coming up before we get to our annual warm/dry period.

I'm sure glad we got those couple of nice days last week.  There is just something about gloom with long days that rubs me wrong.  It's worth it to get a much below normal max like today though.

He was stymied by the left. He has a more efficient plan this time. They will all go home.

In some ways I think it's best Trump lost in 2020.  It has given him time to fine tune a very effective game plan.  I think we also needed things to get bad enough to finally wake people up.

Growing up in America I would have never guessed we would have a Democrat president waging open war on working middle class Americans. Here is a little infographic for y'all. No wonder my deck is falling apart with no hope of repair. Regular folks don't have $25,000 to throw down on a luxury.
