Don't care.
I have sure missed Dec 2006 Tim!! Glad to have you back

The Seattle NWS has some serious balls sticking with the widespread gusts to 60 forecast. The ECMWF and GFS operational runs have been less than impressive with the event up here.
They explained their reasoning, and it sounds...reasonable! Lots at play with this.
-
Heavy rain in Everett.
Up here in Stanwood as well! Very dark, and heavy rain.
-
I don't care what they do... the models no longer support it.
So every model is saying no wind? Perfect, we will have a windstorm!!
-
New MM5 NAM is less windy tomorrow than today. Non-event... typical windy day.
You have been saying this for two days now, yet NWS Seattle has not dropped the High Wind Watch. You might want to contact them and let them know of their error
-
Getting a touch breezy out there, just had a gust rattle my windows!
-
Sounds pretty run-of-the-mill overall. Sorry I had to say itUnprecedented for the station. That's all that counts.
Anyway yes today defiantly felt like a record setting type day. If it wasn't for the sideways rain hitting me while I was in Anacortes today, it would have been a lovely, warm day today!!

My school in the Portland area closed early on 12/12/95 for the storm.
I remember there was talk at my school of an early release during the start of the Inauguration Day storm but they held off, that was a mistake as many routes were blocked by trees. I had just recently got my License so as soon as the power went out at school I got the heck out of there and made it home before trees blocked my route. God that feeling of freedom was amazing! beating a windstorm in my 1975 Chevy ElCamino! Oh the good old days!

Heh the wax is smart... Reminds me of the time I ended up inadvertently following a deicer truck on the way to work several years ago. That stuff is a sticky mess! It also didn't help at all when the sleet, snow, and freezing rain hit a few hours later.
Yeah I spend way too many hours on it, but it does make a big difference!

We moved into our house in January. This summer we had three trees removed from our backyard that would be within striking distance. Good decision, as it turned out 2 of them had termites.
Obviously there are situations that you cant control, however, depending on the size of your property. You cant always go cutting down every tree in the neighborhood.
True! People just need to be smart about it, have the trees checked out to make sure they are healthy, ect. Keep the healthy ones, eliminate the ones that might be a danger. I kind of take things to the extreme, though. Even down to my vehicles. I always make sure they are all in 100% ready for weather...even down to waxing them again if it looks like cold and snow is coming since it is a little added protection against the road chemical & sand that they will be getting blasted with.
Anyway, it has been one of those dry, breezy, and warm mornings up here!

This. Especially if you're a weather geek, if you buy a house with large trees around it and don't do anything to mitigate the risks from windstorms, that's entirely your fault.
Yeah its amazing just how many people turn a blind eye, or don't even think about weather and how it really does effect life in general...until a tree cuts their house in half.
-
It might have something to do with buying a house with large trees nearby.
That is one of the first things buyers should consider before buying, look up and take a look around! Are there any trees that could possibly be large enough and close enough to the house that it could do major damage or possibly injure someone inside. And if you really want the house with towering trees all around it, do something about it after purchase. But I am one of those people that look at all the "what ifs" before doing anything. Think it drives my wife crazy sometimes!

Does anyone know if there is a reason that the 9pm discussions from the Seattle NWS are so terrible. This is at least the third in a row that is about as bare bones as it gets. "A third round of rainy and blustery weather???" Well that is certainly specific.
.SHORT TERM...A WET AND WINDY FRONTAL SYSTEM IS JUST OFFSHORE THIS
EVENING. RAIN WILL INCREASE OVERNIGHT AND THE FRONT WILL MOVE
THROUGH WRN WA WED MORNING. THE ASSOCIATED DEEP LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM
WILL TRACK JUST WEST OF THE CHARLOTTES AGAIN. THERE WILL BE AREAS OF
FULL GALES OVER MOST OF THE MARINE AREAS...AS WELL AS SEVERAL HOURS
OF BLUSTERY SOUTHERLIES...POSSIBLY GALES...WITH THE FROPA AROUND
PUGET SOUND BY MIDDAY. ANOTHER FAST DEVELOPING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM
COMES TOGETHER THROUGH WED NIGHT...BOTTOMING OUT IN THE 970S ABOUT
150 MILES OFF BROOKINGS BEFORE DAYBREAK THURSDAY. THAT LOW FILLS AND
TRACKS NNE...CROSSING VANCOUVER ISLAND THU EVENING AND FILLING JUST
AS RAPIDLY AS IT DEVELOPED. THIS WILL GIVE WRN WA A THIRD ROUND OF
RAIN AND BLUSTERY WEATHER THU AFTERNOON OR NIGHT.
I noticed that, probably keeping things short until we get a little closer to the event. They did freshen the High Wind Watch this evening!

I thought this forum was for tracking all types of weather...perhaps I am wrong? If this upcoming storm had potential of producing a major snow event, there would not be brush off that many here are giving this potential major wind event. The raw power of a windstorm is just amazing too me! And I for one will be tracking it closely, and watching DJ's awesome updates on it!!

BTW...I will gladly give ALL of my wind to anyone who wants it on the Thursday storm. Thankfully it doesn't look THAT bad at this point. I still have a good two hours worth of work cleaning up from the last one.
I will take your wind!! Been too long since we have had a major windstorm in my area. But I am a bit of a rare bird in that I love windstorms!! I don't have any big trees close enough to hit the house which makes a big difference as well.

Things aren't all bad. It isn't everyday that we have five weather warnings going simultaneously.
Up here we have a
Coastal Flood Advisory
Wind Advisory
Flood Watch
High Wind Watch
Special Weather Statement
If we really get as much precipitation as the models are forecasting there will be some major flooding on the Skagit and other local rivers.
An active week for sure! So far this fall it has been feeling very 2006/07 like. Arctic blast, Atmospheric River, major windstorm (if it pans out)...Makes me feel even better for January!
-
This sub-tropical moisture/torch is a major downer. Hopefully, a cold snap is around the corner soon. Trying to remember the last time Seattle/Tacoma had over 3-4 inches on the ground that lasted more than 24 hours... haven't used the real sled in about a decade.
You didn't have sled worthy snow in Dec 2008, or Jan 2012? Even my 2" of sled worthy snow a few weeks ago lasted 5 days!
The atmospheric River/potential windstorm this week is a positive if you want cold weather in a few weeks in my opinion!
-
Its still early, but looking at long range models and the trends that are starting to emerge I am really starting to think that the chances of a major regional arctic blast are fairly low. It could still happen, but at this point I'm not feeling it. I think the most likely scenario is that the highlight of the upcoming winter is something more similar to a January 2013 or late December/early January 2010/11 type event.
Seeing how it is only December 8th, and how quickly both arctic events in November snuck up on us...personally I am not ruling anything out just yet. I am not even going to rule out a white Christmas yet.
-
Maybe it will track north and we could get in on a nice windstorm!Thursday looking pretty breezy for the Oregon Coast.

1:06 in...
Why was it that in the 1980's it was a free-for-all of efforts to design and distribute the largest and most obnoxious eye glasses possible?
Every thing besides the cold and snow (and Back To The Future) was obnoxious back in the 80's. The music, big hair, big glasses...must have been why I spent that decade out playing in our 5 acres of woods. I did have s major crush on Monica Hart from Kiro 7, she was hot...even with the big hair!
-
I specifically remember taping KGW's recap special of the December 1995 windstorm and then later that year KATU's special on the 1996 floods. I remember pulling them out a few years later and making my gf watch them with me. I wonder if they are still at my Dad's house somewhere...
I made my GF now wife watch my tapes a few years ago, she watched 5min of it, called me weird and scolded me for not becoming a meteorologist, then walked out of the room.

= fog
You got it. 50's and sunny today felt nice while I was cleaning up my yard today so I have mixed emotions about an inversion, would be nice to be cold, but I would rather have real cold like last weekend over the fake cold.
-
According to NWS Seattle the lowlands might be deep in an inversion next weekend. Fake cold after an atmospheric river event.

Wild night here, when the wind first started here a couple of hrs ago our power immediately went out. Happened right as we were leaving for my company Christmas party. Made it through the party in Stanwood, and as we are driving through town everything goes dark! That was cool to see! Then we arrived home about 15min ago, and we have power but had one casualty...my BBQ That thing has been in the same spot for 6yrs and I have never had this happen!! And man right now it is rocking and rolling outside! My dogs are not happy campers at all.
