Both these models done a really good job of picking up on the heavy band of rain tonight, almost spot on. Going right through my area, I thought we would get dry slotted tonight! I’m closing on 2 inches!

After I took this video, an heavier storm has come through. Incredible lightning, torrential rain, and some of the loudest thunder I’ve heard in a while. Looks like it should keep moving NE towards your area. My forecast just keeps it back building well into the night.Â
Rocking and non severe, the perfect combo!Â

What an awesome rain and wow grass is looking good! Hoping things continue to build and make its way to the river.Â

Wow it’s amazing how the models are picking up on another “dry slot” over east central Nebraska. The models must be finally catching on that it’s been really difficult lately to get decent rainfall or storms around here anymore haha… I threw those models showing 2-4 inches here this weekend out a couple days ago.
Yeah it’s looking like we will continue being the bullseye for low pressure systems and dry slot us. So frustrating.Â

Well, here it is. Might not be much sleep tonight.Â

One of the most unusual set ups that I can recall in a long time. Crazy to think we could see all modes of storms in the morning; right when buses will be out picking up kids. Not ideal for sure.Â

The 5.9" of snow we got a few days ago is completely gone this morning.
That will green the grass up!!

Things could get interesting around here… Models seem to start showing a heavy band setting up somewhere over Central Nebraska then making its way east..

Absolutely, I've never experienced totality but from what I heard, it's like your on a different planet. I only got to 90% or thereabouts and it was pretty decent. 100% totality is a different world. It's one of those things in life you need to check off the bucket list.
I was lucky enough to be in the path during the 2017 eclipse but totality was only like a minute. One of the most breathtaking experiences ever. I so was to experience it again but just too far away dang it. Will have to wait like another 30 or so years until the next one. Hopefully I’m alive for it!

I helped one of my top customers/ distributors out with a booth at the Northeast Nebraska Ag Expo in Norfolk, NE yesterday and today. I made the decision to make the drive back to Omaha after the show ended, leaving Norfolk around 3:00pm when the heaviest snow was just ending there. The drive south down Highway 81 was terrifying at times, numerous white outs, and several vehicles stuck on the side of the road and a couple jack-knifed trucks (I even received a Public Emergency Alert for no travel advised on east to west Highway 91 due to that massive pileup, something I have never seen before).Â
I don't know how I made it south to Columbus and ultimately east on Highway 30, and then to Highway 275 to get back to Omaha without any major issues, however it was one of the worst drives I have ever experienced (and I travel quite a bit across Nebraska and Iowa for work). A few co-workers of mine that were lagging behind a bit pulled off Highway 81 in Platte Center for 4-5 hours where they waited out the white out conditions for a bit. So glad we all made it home safely... even though a typical 2-hour drive turned out to be a 4+ hour white knuckle ride home. Â
Glad you made it home safe; coming down 81 can be a nightmare when you throw in the blowing snow and that can make it even worse! Of course highway 30 can be just has bad; the worst of it is that 3 mile stretch coming into North Bend. Throw in those curves with the snow that can be a bad situation. The last storm we had they had a big pile up on that highway. Â

Worst thing I have ever seen! Wow, when that band moved thru visibility literally was zero. I left school at 415 and couldn’t see in front of my truck. There are reports of multiple car pile ups including one just outside of town. Worst one is north of Columbus that involved over 50 vehicles.Â

That's a deep snow depth! Wow, I'm pretty sure you are just admiring the scenery of such a wonderful winter landscape. You've been able to enjoy it for more than a couple weeks, right? Question, did all your snow melt from the Christmas storm before the big snows hit in JAN?
It's pretty awesome Tom! We had about an inch of snow on the ground left over before the first storm hit. Everyday when I'm leaving work I just drive around and look at the drifts; it's so awesome taking it all in! Here is a video I made the day after the last storm.Â

It will be interesting to see how much snow begins to melt with the warm up coming up next week. I'm ok with the warm up it will feel good but just hope it doesn't do too much to the snow pack. Granted i have about 18" of snow on the ground and the drifts are huge; it will be interesting to see how much melting takes place. I'm sure will start to have fog days also with the melting; that could hinder some warm up days if fog can stick around during the day.Â

What a relentless storm my goodness!! We still are experiencing ground blizzard conditions, all of eastern Nebraska still closed down! North side of town some houses are buried up to the roof tops! This will probably go down as the worst storm I have seen in terms of cold, blowing snow and drifts. I’ll get more pics when I can, god it’s just so cold when you take your glove off! Currently sitting at -10 with a windchill -29!Â

Not sure why the NWS here in Omaha dragged their feet not issuing a Blizzard Warning for our CWA (conditions are warranting this too right now with less than 1/4 mile visibility at Eppley). The Nebraska State Patrol is now advising people to stay home due to whiteout conditions and treacherous road conditions, even in the city of Omaha. I-80 has been closed in a few spots in the city due to accidents and slide offs.Â
A Blizzard Warning would have likely kept more businesses closed and people home... kind of ridiculous that they dropped the ball when DMX upgraded last night (especially as our snow amounts have increased and snow is still falling). Â
Completely agree! The last storm we had wasn’t a warranted blizzard warning, this one is! I’m completely snowed in as all roads into and outside of town are closed. All plows are also pulled off the roads. Drifts are ridiculous.Â
