  1. A storm cell popped up in SE Iowa and has been raining extremely heavy for about 3 hours straight. Radar estimates approaching 6" in spots so far
  2. man, the same spots keep getting hammered. Reminds me of winter. At least we have received some moderate amounts of rain down my way, but we could use a little more still.
  3. there are currently several Severe t storm warnings and I saw a tornado warning. Not sure I'd call that a bust. I assume you are referring to your specific location?
  4. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md1347.html DISCUSSION...A cluster of thunderstorms continues moving south and east across eastern SD around 50 kt and has been producing severe wind gusts, some significant, the last few hours. Latest radar trends show indications of a mesoscale convective vortex/bookend vortex developing over western Kingsbury County that is likely contributing to the uptick in convective intensity/coverage. Although a capping inversion remains across the region, and the main lifting associated with the right-entrance region of the upper jet streak is lifting farther north away from the east-southeastward propagating system, rapid destabilization along/south of the warm front amidst low-mid 70s surface dewpoints is ongoing. Moreover, a significant cold pool is developing -- a 7-mb pressure jump was noted at KHON -- that should allow for continuation and intensification of the system in the next few hours. Given the expected movement of the current system into MN by 18z, and the potential for new convective development farther east along the warm front in IA, a Watch downstream of the current Watch is likely.
  5. Picked up a quarter inch tonight with a surprise area of storms popping up. Places just to my south and east picked up an inch or so, but I guess I'll take it
  6. 12z GFS now in agreement with WPC. Shows the ring of fire, consistently firing over southern MN. Forecasting the MCS systems that far out though is extremely difficult. Hopefully we get one or 2 that meanders further south than models are currently showing. http://maps1.pivotalweather.com/maps/models/gfs/2017071712/144/qpf_acc.us_mw.png
  7. WPC shows the rain staying in northern Iowa or into MN & WI. The south half of the state that needs it, stays relatively dry http://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/p168i.gif?1500309520
  8. Iowa has been very interesting this summer. Some spots are getting too much rain and many others have not had enough. If I got 5" in the next week as the GFS suggests, that would be very welcome. But other places even nearby that could be troubling. I'm hoping I get at least 2-3" out of this.
  9. Finally got some good rain overnight. 1.08" of much needed rain.
  10. i didn't get a drop last night. Only .05" for the day and .15" total for July. Starting to run a deficit here. Drought monitor has most of the south half of iowa in abnormally dry or moderate drought. http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/data/png/20170704/20170704_ia_none.png
  11. a tiny blip on the radar is producing some very heavy rain in my town. I'm not home, so i can't tell for sure if my house is getting hit or not, but I sure hope so. It's very near by if not a direct hit on my house.
  12. some severe chances tomorrow especially for Wisconsin. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk_0600.gif?1499262031877
  13. Some pop up storms look they are forming right over my house. I'll have to check my gauge when I get home
  14. my two day total is 0.00". We had a brief shower that barely got the ground wet, so perhaps a trace would be more accurate. Hopefully the next round hits the I-80 corridor, we're getting a bit dry here, thankfully the heat went away or it would really be trouble.
  15. Storms look like they will pass to my north again. So many near misses here. I could really use a couple inches.
  16. Lucky you James. I'd love some heavy rain. I don't know if I have 2" for the whole month.
  17. Everything just skipped around me. Storms to the north and south. I got a very brief shower and some lightning. That's it
  18. I only got .1" this morning. And just saw cloud to ground lightning just to my west
  19. Nope. Too bad. Big gap from 80-30 in E Iowa yet again. Although there is a small storm cell that just popped up to my West. Hopefully I get a nice downpour out of it
  20. I'm hoping this line of storms fills in as it heads east. I don't want another near miss.
  21. Seems like we have been in between the heaviest stuff the last couple of weeks. At least we've gotten some decent rain, but keep missing out on the heavier bands.
  22. temps well into the 80s in western Iowa and the plains.
  23. latest HRRR nails my backyard hard, but a very fine cutoff line between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. http://maps2.pivotalweather.com/maps/models/hrrr/2017062816/015/qpf_acc.us_mw.png
  24. June was a scorcher here in Eastern Iowa for a good chunk of the month. It's only been the last week that it's been cool here. We had multiple days into the 90s for highs. I'm hoping for closer to normal temps in the 80s for July.
