  1. 2.16" fell here in Orange with this last storm from Friday night to Sunday night, bringing my backyard season to date total to 20.44" (July 1 - June 30) and 17.45" (October 1 - September 30).

It appears that I received close to what Anti Marine Layer received. I don't know what happened to Orcutt, but maybe the AR either didn't stick around as long up there or the storm gained strength south of Point Conception. I do know that areas in and around the windward side of the Transverse ranges can really score when the flow is coming out of the SW as it did with this last storm.

    Nope.  Completely died.  Oh well.

The cell I made a .gif of had probably the most consistent thunder I have ever heard in Southern California.  Nothing close or loud, but it was nonstop cloud to cloud.  Pretty rapid intensification for here.

That cell passed just to the west of me in Orange. I heard continuous thunder while that storm was going by, but really didn't see much lightning except for a flicker or two. I don't think I have ever heard that much thunder before without seeing the lightning that goes with it!

It's a fake monsoon pattern in March

The flow pattern with the moisture coming in from the east and northeast is like that of a monsoon pattern, but the synoptic pattern is different. This is being caused by a cutoff low over AZ circulating moisture counterclockwise into our area, while the monsoon pattern involves moisture and occasional disturbances circulating clockwise around the 4 Corners High.

Yep.   So no rules or laws on the beaches or in parks... everyone else must follow the rules though.   Saw a guy literally sh*tting on the walkway between the beach and the highway tonight.    Assume that is not a problem.   Go ahead and try it yourself.   25 miles of makeshift shelters.  And the massive piles of garbage and waste between the tent/fort structures... assume that is fine as well.    I should just throw our garbage over the balcony.  The reality is they let this go during the pandemic and can't reel it back in now.    Now its too easy.   Just go build a massive pallet fort right in the middle of a public beach and park.   Are there building code rules in place for their protection and safety like the people across the highway in actual homes have to follow?    This is not a good way for a society operate... it just isn't and I don't care what side of the political aisle you are on.    Its downright sad.

I wonder if some of the recent homeless are those lost their homes during the Lahaina Fire by any chance?

    DEAD!

    Put up a gravestone.

I am surprised that there aren't more from CA on this forum, but Weather West (WW) has a much larger CA based audience. The fact there are more people on WW is why I post much more often there than I do here. It would be nice to have more people on here, but yet I wouldn't want to see WW lose anyone, either.

Most of the low clouds are gone now, but they may come and go through the night.

The flow is forecast to turn offshore and some Santa Ana winds are expected over the next couple of days, especially inland, so I wouldn't expect the marine layer to be present over the next few days, except for possibly along the immediate coast.

  7. Finally some rain!!

It has been raining off and on here in Orange for most of the day, even though there was a break in the mid-late afternoon. A decent band of rain went through this morning into the early afternoon. Then a very fine rain / heavy drizzle in the evening, followed by another heavier band later at night.

Some people still have Christmas decorations.

Some people still have their Christmas lights up in my neighborhood as well, including my next-door neighbor. Unfortunately, I didn't get around to putting my outdoor decorations up because I got sick during the time I normally do it and by the time I felt better, it was too late. However, I did get my indoor decorations up including the Christmas tree.
