Any chance of weakening? Hard to tell if the low is filling.
I'm sure it's weakening some, but certainly doesn't seem to be collapsing based on satellite. Looks like the low center is a little NW of Astoria now.
Anyone have the latest pressure number?

Haven't cut my way out of the house since I was a kid...
Your parents let you operate the chain saw? Jealous.

I would be surprised to see 60mph winds verify for Seattle, just not the best setup up this way.
I will be surprised at this point if someone in the Puget Sound region (Seattle NWS forecast area) doesn't hit 60.
-
Winds have reached the south sound. OLM sustained at 29, gusting near 40.
-
This storm is no joke.
Sounds like the PDX NWS may have actually under-forecast the storm, given the reports.
Those poor suckers. They either swing for the fences with snow and strikeout, or they are caught with their pants down by the wind.

Odd that the Seattle NWS has gone overboard with their forecasts while the Portland NWS has been on the money. Usually it's the opposite.
Don't we have to wait for the forecasts to verify before saying who is on the money?

The next two weeks look about as mild and dull as it gets around here.
At least the Euro shows a couple decent shots of snow for the mountains next week.
-
Just noticed Boeing Field hit 69 today. Jesus.
Sexy.

You people have real trouble with sarcasm... everyone is so wound up.
Canuckians?
I agree with the wound up part, though. Clearly we all need to tread lightly around here until the next Arctic outbreak.
-
So you inadvertently made yourself look really silly. That's actually pretty funny.
But from a historical perspective, is it really that funny? Time will tell.
Looking at satellite, some nice recent developments with that sucker off NorCal. At the risk of extreme silliness, I'm still taking the over for wind gusts at SEA tomorrow. 47 mph before midnight, baby!

Compared to records at Bellingham 2N, it was weak. Its moot now after today's 67 degree reading.
Like I said, made that post before even seeing today's reading.
I think we can all agree that my opinion of BLI's old record is a VERY BIG DEAL and a sensitive issue for many. But now moot.
-
You actually had a solid post going until that last line.
I always get in trouble when I jest.
But it sounds like you agree the 63 was kinda weak. Alright.
-
I think it's simply the context in which you said it. We get a post mentioning a monthly record max high that was tied yesterday and your first response today is "Oh, that's kind of a weak record". Seems like an odd way of looking at it.
Of course we shattered that record today, so no more weak record.
The context was just that I was looking back at posts from last night I hadn't seen yet, decided to check what the Bellingham station records were for December, and then made that post. I didn't even know at that point the record was broken today.
It was just an observation, kind of like when yourself and others on here have pointed out "low hanging fruit" records at times. Given the historical context of December torches, I think I was correct in saying the 63 at BLI was a rather weak monthly record.
But hey...what is America without conspiracy theories? Any thoughts on 9/11 people??
-
Both of them had rather lame arctic airmasses later in the winter!
And then you have January 1940...
-
Yeah, "perspective" is clearly a euphemism for downplaying in this case.
So I guess calling it historic and impressive isn't enough, I also need to do nothing but gush about how it's just AMAZING, SPECTACULAR, and RECORD-BREAKING, and avoid referencing anything similar historically (even though we had a member ask about if/when we've seen this kind of thing before).
You probably should be careful about referencing 1917 and 1980 like you did, kind of comes across as "downplaying" as well...just a "heads up".
-
SEA actually hit 46 mph today.
Oh, between the hourly reports then?
-
You called 63 a WEAK record.... It’s a record though.. Was.
Yup, and I explained why it was weak.
Wasn't meant as an insult towards BLI, the city of Bellingham, or your family.
-
Yes... it will be perfectly calm all day long.
Very good chance today was more windy than tomorrow will be.
SEA will need to beat a gust of 41 mph. I'm taking the over.
-
When it hits 0 in January we won’t really have much to talk about... I mean, why would we? It hit -2 in January of 1950. Not unprecedented at all. Really just not that impressive. Just giving you some historical perspective.
I called it both impressive and historic. Just giving you some thread perspective.
-
1958-59 was much wetter at Tim's house.
2014-15 has plenty of time to catch up!
-
67 is totally historic for Bellingham in midwinter no matter how you slice it. It's also been the mildest year on record up here.
Absolutely. As you and I both pointed out, not unprecedented for the area by any means, but certainly historic.
-
Finally looks like a return of some interesting weather here next week. Chance of a decent storm Sun/Mon, but a lot still up in the air. Then some more seasonable weather and maybe some more chances of snow.
-
The lows were much cooler at the 2N station - at least for 1941.
Looks like that station also hit 67 in 1980. With a warm low for that event of 51. The low this morning was 50.
Yesterday's low of 55 at BLI was just insane. The warmest 2N ever saw in December was 53 in 1919 and 1963, and the previous record for BLI was 53 in both 1958 and 1980.
-
Unprecedented for the station. That's all that counts.
All that counts for that station!
Just providing some more historical perspective for these kind of December temps in western WA.

Yup. And that's what the NWS is going with. It doesn't have to hit 60 at SEA for the high wind warning to verify.
