June (July) 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW
El_Nina replied to Meatyorologist's topic in West of the Rockies
Seems like every season this year maximizes its potential in the last minute. Winter didn't really snow here until March and Spring didn't really rain until May. So it feels like summer will peak at the latest possible point too. -

Really great day again. Started off totally clear and sunny then daytime heating was capped to a comfortable level with the marine push. Windy up at Trillium and clouds were being whisked around. -

Still really green all over the eco regions of eastern Oregon. From the Ochocos to the blue mountains. -

Though some warmer weather wouldn't be the worst thing this year, I wouldn't mind seeing a year that totally skips summer. After every summer basically being a torch from 2013 until this year it would probably be a good break for the vegetation. But this is better than those years at least so no complaints. -

77 and mostly clear. Beautiful mountain view today, still quite white for so late. -

First cicada I've noticed so far this year here. Definitely the thinnest marine layer of the week today, too. Beautiful Friday. -

Getting some light rain here. Just enough to make roads slick. -

Fantastic day really. Kind of late afternoon where chill of the air gets balanced out by sunlight heating the skin. Must've been hard to weather this morning, though. -

Icing on the mountain closed palmer today. Nice to have a mellow summer so far where you aren't blasted everytime you step outside. -

Ended June with 5.20" of rain. More than 200% of normal. Have now started June with some light drizzle earlier this morning. -

Well luckily the trend is your friend and each year keeps getting closer to your optimal climate. I wish I could live somewhere that was slightly too warm and dry for my liking and watch things slowly cool and get wetter. You can think what you want but you did choose to live in a super wet microclimate with convergence zone after convergence zone then throw it in our parched faces as if you're disappointed. I don't know what you really think but that would be pretty funny. -

Because you can't just say it's been a climo June without also adding in how disappointing it is means you're off pace with our native vegetation and climate. If you truly didn't have a problem with climo you'd be feeling neutral about this month. If a hot June is the only June you can appreciate you can't expect to be happy most June's. You also seem to have a problem with springs that are at least close to normal in terms of rain and cold. Even soupy humid conditions can be a problem if it isn't sunny enough and that's in April. -

This month was finally a win here as well because it was anomalously wet. The trees finally got in some growing/healing during growing season. -

Jesse wasn't talking about rainfall. You conveniently changed the subject just so you could post that map. -

We remain above average temperature wise while going through one small early summer/late spring wet period. We had a remarkably dry and sunny spring. Every summer since 2013 has been a complete blowtorch essentially with west coast ridges popping up for weeks on end. Yet it seems so hard for people who like sunny weather all the time or act like they do to even acknowledge the fact that they've been truly blessed throughout that time period. Then they use a few wet winters which are always wet anyways to try and say hey well the year overall wasn't dry. These winters were still warm too. Rain is so much more valuable for our native vegetation during the growing season after March and before October anyways. That rain in the winter is almost completely futile to helping them grow during the summer and when it totally just stops raining in April or May it stresses them out. Just remarkable. -

It's nice being able to enjoy some sun knowing the local vegetation is well hydrated. There is no Guarantee it will stay this way through much of the summer as we are still running a big deficit, though.
