  1. Looks like Thursday North Texans will get to practice their sleet skills. It will switch over to snow Thurs night/Fri. 28/17 Thursday /Mix Sleet-Snow 1-2' (just enough to create a disaster on the road with the newbies. 33/15 Friday /morning snow. It's been a long time since folks have driven on this. Does not bode well in my imagination. Even the Central Hill Country could get into the action.
  2. I was in it. The house was buried by snow drifts. I left for Texas and never looked back. . Our winter weather this week will be 24 hrs of tricky driving vs a dump truck of snow in my driveway.
  3. My daughter and her family are currently dealing with 24” of snow on Cape Cod. Saw 70mph winds. Power’s out. That’s a winter storm.
  4. So how are models for North Texas and Eastern Okla? Im trying to give the City Fleet people a heads up. Mets here are being very tight lipped.
  5. When is this joy expected?? Hope you gents are off on this but I, and many other Texans, are as prepared as possible. Many of us have gathered solar powered camping items. I can kind of warm up. Not toasty but civilized. And have light planned. With a gas grill we can eat. I just hope there isn’t ice on the road and no repeat of the horrendous pile up on 35. It was a challenge for the city keeping then generators fueled for police, fire, water. My husband handles the City Fleet and they pulled it off last year without so much as a shimmy on the road transporting diesel to generators. They all got commendations for that trick. But once was plenty, thanks.
  6. Snow over the Acropolis in Athens, Greece is beautiful, but debilitating for the capital city. Over 3,500 motorists were rescued and hundreds of others had to spend the night in their cars on an Athenian highway after heavy snow fell Monday and Tuesday. Areas around Athens saw up to 31 inches of snow. https://www.foxweather.com/weather-news/greece-and-turkey-paralyzed-by-snowstorm
  7. Well, No Texas is 45, damp. Feels a good deal colder. Same all week. It’s made me feel just dreadful. But I’m a Texas kid used to short sleeves in winter part of the time. Low of 31 tonight. Much the same all week.
  8. We’re at 53 low tonight at 31*. Very light rain/drizzle. Despite needing some real rain it has only teased us all day. Chilly, damp, but no real precip.
  9. Some very nice images and illustrations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZZVVwqZ0rs
  10. How do you guys like your pancakes? Chicago this weekend.
  11. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/how-a-volcano-severed-tonga-from-the-world/ar-AAT0FNR?ocid=NL_ENUS_A1_20220123_1_2&bep_ref=1&bep_csid=41212 The damage is extensive. 3 fatalities. Tonga is completely cut off from the world. The only communications cable snapped. It was as if a nuclear detonation had gone off and a 300 mile wide cloud of ash rose into the sky then rained down on the island. much of Tonga will need to be rebuilt. As one of the most isolated islands this will take years. I went to college with a woman from Tonga. Kind, happy, and very bright. She returned home and became a teacher. She was known for always wearing her sarong over jeans and a tee shirt with tennis shoes. She never abandoned her idendity or love for Tonga. This is a good article. Worth your time.
  12. Typical schizo weather here. High of 65. Tomorrow we’ll drop to 56 and cloudy. 50% chance of rain. Thank God. We desperately need it. Drought is digging it’s heels in and farmers/ranchers are dealing with feed and crop issues. Fire warnings are common especially on windy days. This is one angry Niña.
  13. Pristine Coral Reef Found at Surprising Depth. https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/national-international/rare-pristine-coral-reef-found-off-tahiti-coast/2865039/ Lets hope Scientists leave it alone. it is deep enough to remain extremely difficult for most divers. Awesome color too. Haven’t seen one quite like it.
  14. Joining OmahaSnowFan today 37* low tonight 20 wind <10mph partly cloudy (no rain of course)
  15. Maybe 5 times since 1950. That’s about every 12 yrs or so. It’s a fairly rare thing considering the Gulf.
  16. The moisture that sat over us today and toyed with our expectations moved off east and rained on La. And swung up to Tenn. Frankly, I’m offended. There’s even winter weather falling in South Tx. C’mon.
  17. I’ll believe it when I see it. Clouds tempt and move on, like today. Just not enough “umph” to create measurable rain.
  18. I know all of you are focused on the dynamic winter in the central north, however, Texas is entering a very different dynamic. Severe to Extreme drought. Wildland fire warnings. Today we have a front crossing the State and we’re cloudy with rain on the radar. News flash. It isn’t raining. Is there any hope for real rain??
  19. Someone relieve my anxiety and tell me when the DFW area will see rain?! Really need it.
  20. Hi Snow! You’ve been much missed. Nice to hear your thoughts. I agree and there’s a good chance we’ll see more. I’m very interested in the details on this one. The damage underwater, it’s affects on life in that area underwater. To create an above water blast like that took some real pressure. Fascinating from space.
  21. In Alaska, residents heard booming sounds due to the shock waves that have reached the state. The National Weather Service in Anchorage confirmed that the sounds are from underwater volcanic eruptions. Tsunamis we’re experienced all around the Pacific Ring I’d be interested to see the resulting crater after this eruption The devastation is certainly considerable. Felix was one of the first to suggest publically that we’d see a new mini ice age due to the sun and volcanic activity. I’ve been wondering when the quakes and volcanos would wake up.
