  7. A very busy afternoon in North Texas. Heavy rain, wind, hail and 4 tornados seen ont he ground and a 5th not yet confirmed that I just heard about on TV. My area SW of Ft. Worth only received heavy rain about 3/4". It came down fast and moved on. But N and NE of Ft. Worth was hammered with high wind and the tornados. These were amazing low supercells that just moved over us in silence the dropped the hammer. Amazing. The tornado near Canton, Tx. NE of Dallas was a multi vortex tornado. I've been trying to locate a photo. But the one on TV was stunning.

  10. Flooding may be the word of the year for the center of the country. _____________________________________________________ Torrential rains in Oklahoma over the past two weeks have brought the Arkansas River in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma to its highest water level ever recorded. Near the Oklahoma border at Fort Smith, Arkansas (population 300,000), the river rose to two feet above its previous all-time high on Tuesday morning, and was predicted to rise at least another two feet before cresting on Wednesday. The river also hit a record high on Friday at Ponca City, Oklahoma, about 70 miles upriver from Fort Smith. Between those two locations, at Muskogee, Oklahoma, the river crested on Sunday at its second highest level on record. All-time record crests are predicted over the next week along a 100-mile stretch of the river extending from Fort Smith to just upstream from Little Rock, Arkansas. At Little Rock, the crest is predicted to be the sixth highest on record, and the highest since 1990. On Tuesday afternoon, two levees along the Arkansas River in Arkansas were overtopped, flooding farmlands, according to katv.com. https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/Historic-flooding-Arkansas-River-Oklahoma-and-Arkansas?cm_ven=cat6-widget
  11. Good grief. The area around DFW is under a Flash Flood Watch from Wednesday a.m. to Thursday a.m. They say we'll get 2-3" of rain in 24 hrs. That's a lot of of heavy shower action. But we have done it over the past year. We'll see. Very windy the past 2 days. 15-25 mph constantly. 87* Dewpoint 71* Humdity 60%
  12. Amazing wet year. Would you please post this in the 2019 rainfall thread? I'm trying to document members rainfall for the year. We may be amazed by Dec. 31st.
  13. Another troublesome tornado day today. So be careful folks. In the last 3 days there have been over 500 tornados reported. Close to a record.
  14. I lived in Montgomery, just outside of Aurora. That's big time hail. Hope everyone's fine. You guys be careful up there!
  15. We're on our way back. https://phys.org/news/2019-05-nasa-unveils-artemis-moon-mission.html NASA on Thursday unveiled the calendar for the "Artemis" program that will return astronauts to the Moon for the first time in half a century, including eight scheduled launches and a mini-station in lunar orbit by 2024. The original lunar missions were named for Apollo—Artemis was his twin sister in Greek mythology, and the goddess of hunting, wilderness and the Moon. Administrator Jim Bridenstine confirmed that Artemis 1 will be an uncrewed mission around the Moon planned for 2020. Next will come Artemis 2, which will orbit Earth's satellite with a crew around 2022; followed finally by Artemis 3 that will put astronauts on lunar soil in 2024, including the first woman.
  16. I've asked Tom to pin a thread for rainfall totals for the year. As we all will likely see an extraordinary year, it will be interesting to compare totals throughout the year.
  17. West Ft. Worth, Texas......18.91" through May 2019.
  18. Post your rain totals this year. Keep a running tally as we go through this very interesting year. Back it up to the first of the year if you can. Let's see just how crazy it gets by Dec. 31st !
  19. It's been the year for Texas Panhandle storms. May rock and Roll again today. I don't know how the DFW area has managed to avoid the really bad stuff but I'm okay with that. It seems to jump over us then hit NE Texas....that isn't normal at all. Looks like a crazy summer for us all.
  20. They're common events, however the proponderence of evidence probably points to a pattern. As these occur and grow in frequency and/or strength along a given fault the stress will build. Eventually, it will have a major slippage in a weak spot. I'm of the opinion the weakest point is in the Cascade area right now. It's just too quiet. Considering the big quake in Japan that created the tsunami, I'm curious as to whether the cascade area will respond in kind? It's just been too quiet for my comfort.
  21. This is something else. What a roller coaster.
  22. Oh Joy, late Tues-early Thurs we have another inch of rain on the horizon. Temps forecast to be 86-90. Should be sauna time in Texas. I'm thinking the summer NWS forecast for wetter and cooler is on the money.
  23. We hear this from time to time, but the bottom line is that the west coast continues to build up stresses on those faults and eventually something big will let go. I for one don't want to be around when it does. Could be a 7.8+ _______________________________ A series of tiny quakes rattling California and the Pacific Northwest may signal an upcoming catastrophic earthquake, seismologists say, KOIN reported. The tremors are indications of a “slow-slip” event, says Ken Creager, a University of Washington professor, KOMO reported. “These plates are basically moving half an inch over the course of a couple days, so it kind of jiggles enough that our most sensitive instruments can feel,” Vidale said, according to the publication. “But people can’t.” Read more here: https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/nation-world/national/article230765154.html#storylink=cpy
