We're on our way back. https://phys.org/news/2019-05-nasa-unveils-artemis-moon-mission.html NASA on Thursday unveiled the calendar for the "Artemis" program that will return astronauts to the Moon for the first time in half a century, including eight scheduled launches and a mini-station in lunar orbit by 2024. The original lunar missions were named for Apollo—Artemis was his twin sister in Greek mythology, and the goddess of hunting, wilderness and the Moon. Administrator Jim Bridenstine confirmed that Artemis 1 will be an uncrewed mission around the Moon planned for 2020. Next will come Artemis 2, which will orbit Earth's satellite with a crew around 2022; followed finally by Artemis 3 that will put astronauts on lunar soil in 2024, including the first woman.

I've asked Tom to pin a thread for rainfall totals for the year. As we all will likely see an extraordinary year, it will be interesting to compare totals throughout the year.

It's been the year for Texas Panhandle storms. May rock and Roll again today. I don't know how the DFW area has managed to avoid the really bad stuff but I'm okay with that. It seems to jump over us then hit NE Texas....that isn't normal at all. Looks like a crazy summer for us all.

They're common events, however the proponderence of evidence probably points to a pattern. As these occur and grow in frequency and/or strength along a given fault the stress will build. Eventually, it will have a major slippage in a weak spot. I'm of the opinion the weakest point is in the Cascade area right now. It's just too quiet. Considering the big quake in Japan that created the tsunami, I'm curious as to whether the cascade area will respond in kind? It's just been too quiet for my comfort.

This is something else. What a roller coaster.

Oh Joy, late Tues-early Thurs we have another inch of rain on the horizon. Temps forecast to be 86-90. Should be sauna time in Texas. I'm thinking the summer NWS forecast for wetter and cooler is on the money.

We hear this from time to time, but the bottom line is that the west coast continues to build up stresses on those faults and eventually something big will let go. I for one don't want to be around when it does. It's been one crazy assed spring ! More to come I'm sure. Our lake is almost tipping over the spillway. They've opened the flood gates to go down river but If we get more rain.....it'll tip. So boys? How's the US summer going to size up ?

Big change from yesterday. Temps at 85 but humidity is 57%. Not great but better than the 90% yesterday Dewpoint 71*. Feels almost human out there. The NE Tx Panhandle is dealing with strong storms. Haven't heard anything critical as yet. Tomorrow will bring us a 30% chance of isolated storms. Could happen, but I won't hold my breath. I could use a week of dry weather frankly!

Terrifying night photo. We get night tornados here and for the life of me, I can't understand why we went from afternoon tornados to mostly night time tornados. Anyone have an explaination ?? Glad no one hurt here but the images are dreadful. Another day - and night - ahead. Stay safe.

We have the same problem here in North Texas. That's the entire span of Central US. Amazing.

I am not surprised that this storm system generated so many tornados after feeling the air. The heavy Gulf air has been suffocating. But once the system is past us the air will dry out and feel better. Yesterday and last night saw 30 tornados formed. I'm so glad none of our members have been affected to our knowledge. This was one nasty few days. Flooding still an issue. The Central Plains certainly got clobbered. Temperature 72* this morning. Our humidity is high this morning at 90%. Dewpoint 70* 1" rain

We were lucky. We received an inch of rain which came down very fast. That means a lot is run off into that already near over flowing spillway. As we have a number of sunny days ahead, I'm sure they'll be emptying it as fast as they can, but a winter and spring of rain, won't drop quick. We have been lucky. No tornados to date. A few small twisters dropped, but nothing like many midwestern cities are dealing with.

I was more worried about you up there friend. This is a return of the Oklahoma tornado pattern I recall as a child. It always frightened me. Ponca City, Okla. received 6.75" of rain. Our lake is at capacity and about to go over the spillway. Very rare. I was thinking of you and hoping you, your family, and property were fairing well through this. I've been lucky. Just a lot of rain. We received and inch or so far this morning, but there's still some to the west of us. This brings me to a future post, maybe 3 yrs in the future. We will be likely moving closer to family on the Red River near Denison, Tx after my husband retires. As we will build, we will construct a safe room within the house, just for storms like this which I believe may be more common in the future. My brother in law is altering a master bath into one this year. Weather is changing in the Southern Plains. Question is....how long will this trend last? Years? What is the word on Leach, Oklahoma?

The lake that I live 1/2 mi from is about to go over the Spillway blocking a road my husband and I use a lot. It’s been one seriously wet spring and not over yet. Summer may get very interesting here.

Storms are north of DFW area but the sky is dark and turbulence leaves me wondering whether we dodged the bullet... or not? Wind is gusty and almost circular on the ground. Don’t like this atmosphere one bit.

Sedona is very very special. I love going there. There's something very different and very compelling there. We're currently at 80*. Sunny, clear. Heading to 86* 50% chance of rain tomorrow but it should be scattered showers, high of 89*.

In SW of Ft. Worth we received ~.60" rain, that is when it wasn't raining sifdeways. Came down fast. The really cool part was how long the dark clouds sat almost stationary, the suddenly barreled through. The thunder in the distance sounded more like canon fire, not thunder. I heard Civil Wat canons fire several years ago, and this was eerily similar.

I'm envious Tom! I married an Arizona boy and I love that area. The drive through the canyon is nice too. Enjoy. Zone out a little and enjoy the town. Great place.

It's darker than midnight under a skillet right now. No rain yet. It's sitting out just west of me. The worst of the heavy stuff will occur between the Red River and Denton, Tx. Still 77*. Getting darker as I write. Looks like late sunset. This thing has been moving slow however, so who knows how much rain it will drop despite being on the southern tail end of this line.
