  1. After reviewing 12z runs I notice the GFS flirts with very cold air near far northern Washington and some colder air filters down into the Columbia Basin, but nothing too drastic in terms of changes. The GEM was a bit more blocky and now the EURO, the mighty, the King, has thrown a possible wrench in things saying, "Here, have one more backdoor cold shot!" I notice the energy is held back much further in the Aleutians and if you remember yesterday that was one of the key factors as to how things would evolve in the Day 4-7 time frame which downstream impacts us 1-2 days later. We'll have to see if the EPS offers any support for this and then onto 00z runs! Remember the trend the past 2 months has been for blocking to end up stronger than models project as they keep wanting to break it down and it has been very stubborn to do so. Will that continue? I dunno. 2. Just had my loudest gust yet. Absolutely raging with that 'roar' wow. This has to be 50mph. This might be the peak occurring. This is probably now reaching east wind event status. Not yet and probably won't get to east wind storm levels.
  3. 6z GFS alert! The wind woke me up heard some loud "bang", so here I am. I thought I would check out the 6z GFS. YEAH. About that. Wow. Pattern develops at just Day 5. Watch the offshore ridge merge with the Aleutian ridge forming a formidable block. Note the low pressure cut off holding under the Block. Wow! BC slider and if this were late November to December we would score! Could this possibly have some ensemble support? Could we be seeing a new trend emerge to reset our current cold pattern in the 8-10 day period? Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We'll find out in about an hour. Day 5.5 Day 7 Day 8
  4. Okay.... That was huge! Wind has ramped up another few notches. Just heard limbs breaking too. Sooo tired......
  5. Strong winds now at my house near West Gresham! I can hear the roar coming from my east before it even reaches my house. Power Outages now steadily increasing.
  6. 12:40 AM Near west Gresham here I just had the first loud gust of this event 35mph+. Here we go! I hope it gets a lot stronger. 6z GFS in 1 hour 48 minutes
  7. Maryhill, WA G 51. That seems really high for that location.
  8. Just like that I have gone from calm to 20-30mph winds. C'MON!!!! Near west Gresham
  9. 110kts 500mb jet over the Washington Cascades nosing down into the Eastern Gorge, North Central Oregon. Hmmm!
  10. Wow! 140kt jet with this arctic blast. When is the last time we saw that?
  11. Now imagine if this happened 2 months from now on December 28th. We would be looking at one hell of major backdoor blast with big league downslope/damaging winds.
  12. Yeah absolutely it is. You're right the very light precip is helping some with mixing. I have to wonder if this may become a bigger wind event than is forecast/expected. This may be one of those occasions where as the wind ramps up you can stand outside and literally hear the low level jet/core of winds roaring overhead. That's creepy when that occurs. Awesome and creepy. More awesome than creepy. Okay. I've noticed when that happens you get sudden, very erratic strong gusts.
  13. I've never seen that before and even after I didn't see you say it, then I said it too, then I saw you said it. Yeah.
  14. Wow. The Dalles ENE G 41mph. That's rare. I don't recall east winds ever getting much above 30-35mph there during arctic fronts.
  15. 10 PM Check out the insane pressure rises occurring at Yakima! WOW
  16. 00z GFS fairly close to reloading the same pattern! 00z ECMWF in 1 hour 25 minutes
  17. 9 PM Mesoanalysis 850mb Temp advection shows strong cooling blasting towards us. Really impressive!
  18. 00z WRF and WOW factor. 4km Sounding over PDX at 2 AM now has increased the winds to 60kts just off the surface! If any of that can effectively mix down towards the surface there may be isolated gusts 50-60mph.
  19. Wow. Talk about a blast! AWESOME 00z GFS in 48 minutes
  20. 7 PM 850s cooling very quickly from the Northeast with 0c near Boardman and -10c Spokane.
