  1. 12z Euro looks more reasonable. But there is little doubt PDX will at least see their first 80 of the year by next weekend. Which is more or less on time.
  2. Can already see clouds from the next system quickly approaching on the visible.
  3. Meanwhile a beautiful morning here with lots of sun ahead of the incoming system. Partly sunny and 59 currently. Hit a chilly low of 41 this morning with even some dense fog around. I think the downpours before sunset last night followed immediately by clear skies set us up perfectly for some late spring fog.
  4. The 12z GFS looks like hott garbage in the long range, but the ensemble and control look more reasonable.
  5. Good chance we see our first 90 of the year by next weekend or early the following week. This ridge is looking roided up.
  6. Ended up with a 61/44 spread here. Overnight rain then partly to mostly sunny skies through early afternoon, followed by another band of showers from the NNE that brought moderate rain mid afternoon. Clearing out nicely this evening though, with cool temps. 49 degrees currently.
  7. Weather like that is historically pretty typical for the first half of May. It’s definitely becoming less common though, so people are adjusting their expectations.
  8. Looks like a 63/47 day at PDX. A little below most guidance which is a rarity.
  9. Looks like some strongish storms moving into Clark County in NNE flow aloft. I’m not home at the moment but likely there will be some heavy rain there soon.
  10. 12z EPS. Maybe some hope for a spike of warmth followed by some more seasonable weather. We’ll see. A decent warm spell followed by some t-storms or something might even be kind of fun as long as we’re not embarking on unbroken ridging until September.
  11. That’s the thing. Once we start getting weather like this these days we just never look back. I LOVE days like today in the spring. Partial sunshine, reasonable temps, and a recently watered landscape. Cant get much better.
  12. Today has been absolutely lovely, btw. Soaking rain last night then brilliant sunshine with clouds at times today so far and a lush and blooming landscape. Temps moderate, in the upper 50s to around 60 at the moment. Gorgeous weather but we’re in a long wave troughy pattern so it doesn’t count.
  13. Even last year things started browning up by mid-May.
  14. Is there some sort of law saying people need to get on their boats that day? We’ve had nothing but long, warm summers lately so I’m sure there will be plenty more opportunities.
  15. I’m trying not to focus too hard on the perma ridging being advertised in the long range and remind myself we are still in for a fun weather ride the next week or so.
  16. Beautiful morning here after pouring rain much of the night. Everything looks so fresh and rain washed. Picked up about 1/3” overnight with temps in the mid-40s. I imagine the northern Oregon Cascades got a good hit of snow. Currently partly cloudy with puffy clouds around and 50 after a low of 44.
  17. Intense little system riding through on a suppressed jet tonight. Almost has the feeling of something that would have been a snowmaker 2-3 months ago.
  18. I’ve always found a good way to determine the distance of a storm is to see a lightning strike then count how many girlfriends hear the thunder until it reaches me.
  19. Or central Oregon. The high deserts in the southern and eastern parts of the state routinely get some pretty incredible swings.
