  1. Keep in mind Andrew that those temps are in C.
  2. Another low of 24 this morning. Mid-level clouds raced in shortly after daybreak which should help lock in a chilly day. Just 38 out there now.
  3. Pulled off a 44/24 day here. Very nice. First sub-45 high of the season. Just a light easterly breeze in the afternoon, but the last few days it has worked to keep thing colder rather than mixing things out like over the weekend. Some scenic high clouds out there, moving toward sunset. Looks like clearing behind them though, so likely another cold night.
  4. Low of 24 here this morning. Coldest of the season so far again. Wind held on until about 9-10pm last night before dying down, at which point it dropped below freezing at got frosty quick. Looks like another 28 at PDX. VUO hit 23 yesterday morning and fell to 24 this morning.
  5. The frost buildup in the shade in the central and western parts of Vancouver was looking pretty impressive this afternoon. Doesn’t seem to be as much of a thing in the east side of town. I think the afternoon east winds scour out the layer of cold air that sits just a couple feet above the ground and allows the frost to persist in shady pockets elsewhere.
  6. You’re near the leeward side of the West Hills right? That area always seems to hold onto the pesky east wind for awhile. I think the downsloping terrain makes it easier to mix down to the surface out there.
  7. Ended up with a very respectable 48/25 here today. Nice to see the gap wind affect finally kick in as the cold pool east of the mountains gets well established. Could even see the stratus in the Gorge today from the east metro. Winds are slacking off again this evening, so should be another cold night. We’re getting on a good roll now.
  8. The forum would be losing its collective mind if a couple inches of snow were in the forecast for the western lowlands. It’s all relative I realize, but you have it pretty good over there.
  9. East wind has kicked up at PDX. Seems to be transitioning to more of a gap wind setup today with stratus building westward through the Gorge. Hopefully will keep temps cooler metro wide today. PDX is still waiting for their first sub-50 high of the season.
  10. I was REALLY close to hearting this one when I first started reading it. You got off to such a good start! Baby steps.
  11. It’s also a sacred site where tribal youth would go for vision quests, to find their lifelong spirit guide. What’s your spirit guide Andrew?
  12. Hiked up Wind Mountain for the sunset and moonrise yesterday. Beautiful on top with a nice wind sheltered spot on the west side of the peak. The eastern side was cold, windy and frozen with temps around 30.
  13. Coldest temp of the season so far here, with a low of 25. Wind isn’t blowing all that far away, so struck a nice balance of cool, dry air being fed into the area and calm winds. Looks like PDX hit the 20s again too. Ended up with a 51/27 yesterday with lots of sun and breezy east winds in the afternoon and evening.
  14. Clearly a good sign for lots of Covington snowfall. I wonder if they recalibrated it and over corrected after some of the wonky cold readings in late October. Seems like they’d generally be more in line with EUG on mornings like this. Doesn’t seem like wind was an issue there last night. Just fog.
  15. A beautiful, frosty low of 27 this morning. Ended up with a 51/26 yesterday. Highs have not been overly impressive with this cool and dry spell yet, but lows have been chilly. East winds should spread across most the area later today. Will be curious what that does to afternoon temps. Something tells me the extra mixing won’t to a lot to keep things cooler.
  16. Bottomed out at 26 here. Coldest low of the season so far. Even the puddles are frozen the whole way through. Currently holding at 32, and sunny.
  17. Ended up with a 50/28 day here. Decent for late November. Fog stuck around until about 11am, then it was crisp, sunny and beautiful. Already down to freezing this evening. I’ll be curious to see how low level temps trend the next few days.
  18. Bottomed out at a chilly, frosty 28 degrees this morning. Had some decent freezing fog form earlier that is now burning off slowly. Everything out of direct sun is still frosty out there, current temp is 34. Ended up with a 51/35 day yesterday. Improved on the morning low by three degrees before midnight.
  19. 51/38 day here. Low clouds burned off by 11:30 or so and it was sunny and a little milder than forecast. PDX made it all the way up to 53. Hopefully a decent inversion can set up in the coming days.
  20. Just noticed that the little system the night before last put PDX over 5” for the month to date. Approaching 6” here. We’ll see if we can sneak another system in within the next week to add to that.
  21. I’ve noticed the really hardy windmill palms scattered throughout the Portland metro, but once you get within 5-10 miles of the west end of the Gorge they disappear.
  22. Today I’m thankful for how decent the 12z GEFS looks in the mid to long range
