  1. Fine first day of meteorological fall out there. Partly cloudy and mild, temp is hanging at 68 after a low of 59. The air smells clean and the landscape looks refreshed from yesterdays rainfall. Hoping this month offers a reprieve from the constant torching since late April, but I’m sure that will be a tall order.
  2. Gorgeous end to August yesterday. 64/60 spread here with .71” rain. Rain and overcast lasted all day with drizzle well into the evening hours. Such a treat to end summer with. Brings the monthly total close to an inch out here. Wettest August since 2019. PDX’s high of 66 yesterday was their coolest August high since 2013. A nice note to end their warmest month on record on.
  3. Had a decent downpour yesterday evening. Picked up a quick .10” which brings me to .15” for the month so far. Hope to add to that tomorrow. Ended up with a 72/59 spread yesterday. Midnight low. The smell after the rain, evening clearing, full moon and cool temps last night were definitely giving off some early fall vibes.
  4. 12z EPS. Looking pretty promising for the pattern change to last at least the next 7-10 days. Maybe beyond. Some GFS runs yesterday were trying to throw another massive ridge over us in the long range. Not sure if they were just defaulting to the background pattern this summer or not. At any rate it’s nice to see the LR EPS not in agreement.
  5. Will have to call my dad in Port Townsend. Looks like the Quimper Peninsula is getting hit hard.
  6. Thin but intense. Like Andrew in his college daze.
  7. Me too Andrew. Not sure if this will be enough to decisively end the fire season west of the Cascades, but it could stand to put a big dent in it. What the pattern does the next few weeks will largely dictate where we go from there, but current signs are promising.
  8. EPS beefed up precip amounts a bit for Thursday. We’re in the home stretch now so good to see.
  9. Nice area of drizzle moved in on the last half hour. Temp down to 66. So cool to see in the middle of the day in August. A rare bird in recent summers.
  10. Meanwhile another cool and cloudy day with some drizzle in spots. 67 currently after a low of 61. It is kind of remarkable how warm lows have stayed even with a drizzly marine layer around. PDX only fell to 65 this morning which is getting into the top tier for warm mins at this point of the season.
  11. Some good looking 12z runs. Nice to see the Euro and GFS start to align a bit on us getting some decent stratiform precip down this way on Thursday. Only 48 hours out now.
  12. Has to be right. I’ve never known him to embellish.
  13. What a nice day. 69/61 spread. First sub-70 high since 6/20. Morning drizzle then mostly cloudy all afternoon. Even some drizzle in spots this evening now as an added treat. Just incredibly refreshing and pleasant out. Especially with the rest of the week looking really nice too.
  14. 12z EPS looks pretty promising for this pattern change having a bit more staying power than anything we’ve really seen the past 3-4 months.
  15. The line of clearing eating away at the marine layer offshore is interesting, on this satellite loop. Can’t quite remember seeing anything like that before. Could be instability from the ULL mixing out the inversion. It’s such a well-defined line though: https://a.atmos.washington.edu/~ovens/wxloop.cgi?vis1km_color+30
  16. Looks like the 12z Euro redeems itself a bit by being much wetter over the long weekend.
  17. 12z Euro is washed out trash for the Thursday system down here. Hopefully it makes a comeback on the next run. Last nights 00z was pretty good.
  18. Really hoping the Euro still shows something similar. Should find out in the next few frames.
  19. Cloudy and drizzly here, with the marine layer all the way up to the Cascade crest. Reminds me of the olden days. Looks like PDX has picked up 0.03” this morning in drizzle. About the same here. Currently 63 after a low of 61.
  20. The pattern change looks great, but all of these last 90+ day/last day of summer posts could look pretty silly when the troughy pattern passes (it will) in 7-10 days and we’re sitting under another big ridge. At very least it will probably be less smoky at that point, heaven wiling. 86/60 day here today. A little cooler but essentially a repeat of the last four days in terms of sky conditions. An ugly smoky haze with some scattered clouds here and there.
