Yeah the 06z ensembles are really good.

One step forward, two back.

The ensembles were a trainwreck.

The GFS run is interesting.

The GEM is a pretty lame model. I remember it kept showing massive arctic outbreaks in December 2017. I kind of gave up on it then.

I was just thinking back fondly on the raging zonal flow of November and December 2015.

Don't get me wrong I am excited about a pattern change. Overall this run looks better than the 18z so far.

He is about 3 years old than my old man then. He turned 17 in December 69'.

Either way I think over the next two weeks we are going to have 2 main problems. 1) Ridge a bit to far west. 2) Not quite enough amplification. At least if current trends hold.

I found the 18z to be somewhat lame in the long range compared to the 12z.

We are eternally grateful for his service. He must be a few years older than my Dad. The old fella was 17 in 1969, he was drafted two years later, but he never was sent to Nam.

Thank you for the concern. I really do appreciate that. I long ago made the decision I would never do anything to intentionally shorten my time here. I have 4 kids so I am fairly motivated to stick around. Plus if we have another January 1950 or 1969 I really would not want to miss it.

My vivid memories of the snowy winter of 92-93 are now almost 3 decades old. Soon we will all be gone, and then forgotten.

Those kids are in their late 50s now and that guy is probably dead./

What the GFS is showing is pretty good for late November.

Salem had 119 freezes in 1985. I haven't checked, but I assume that is their record. Jan: 28 Feb: 17 Mar: 20 Apr: 2 May: 3 Oct: 4 Nov: 19 Dec: 26

To put that in perspective PDX had 14 freezes for the calendar year 2010.
