  1. Eugene may hit the mid-50s today, but that is kind of irrelevant in terms of how low they go tonight. They hit 17 on the 31st in 2002 and 2006. With both events their highs the previous day were in the 50s.
  2. Tonight could be mind blowing. I see Joseph, OR is only at 17 degrees right now.
  3. Looks like Goodland, Kansas is forecast to hit 2 tomorrow night. Their October record is 1, so they will be very close. The coldest temp I can find in October in Kansas was 0, but I'm not sure if that is their official record.
  4. Laramie, WY reporting 0 with Heavy snow at noon, on October 29th.... Looks like they had a midnight high of 17. Saw Olympia hit 22 this morning too.
  5. Probably the most impressive low in Oregon last night was the 15 at Pendleton. Beat the record low of 19 from 1971 and is the earliest 15 on record there. The October monthly record low is 11 set in 1935, we will see if they can break that tomorrow
  6. It was. I would say the fall progression was much different though.
  7. Looks like Roseburg, OR briefly hit 28 this morning, a new record low breaking the record of 30 set in 1936.
  8. I totally missed what Phil said that was controversial? That this month reminded him of October 2009?
  9. SLE has been as low as 27 this morning. We made it down to 29 here. This after taking a brief detour back up to 38 when the winds arrived.
  10. This is just an epic early season airmass. We are just on the edge and it is still impressive here.
  11. IF SLE's monthly mean ends up at 49.5 it will be their coldest October since 1949.
  12. Amazing there is another shot of chilly air into Montana toward the end of the week. Looks like some Lake Effect snow near the Great Lakes this weekend.
  13. Looks like -7 departures at SLE and EUG today. -6 at PDX. 46/27 up here today. Down to 31 at the moment.
  14. Is it just me or do we sometimes go entire winters without airmasses this cold hitting the continental US. A bit of an exaggeration there, but good grief.
  15. Looks like a November 2014 redux about to happen there...
  16. NWS going for a low of 20 at Eugene tomorrow night. So I was thinking. If Salem ends up in 4th place for coldest October behind 1893, 1919, and 1949, well.... There is some decent cherry picking material there. Looking those years. October 1919 was pretty insane. 16 sub freezing lows at SLE. Average low of 32.9. It was about 2.5F colder than 1893 which is the 2nd coldest October. 1893 was pretty wet. Almost 8" of rain at SLE. 1919 was very dry. 1949 was a little drier than average. Very similar to this October except it ended on a warm note.
  17. October 1991 was way different overall though. The first half of the month was very warm. Salem had 8 highs of 80+. Their max for this month will end up being 71.
  18. I am right there with you on this, and it is probably the progression that makes the most sense.
