January 2024 Weather in the PNW (Part II)
theRunner replied to Meatyorologist's topic in West of the Rockies
Could anything more dynamic be in play for east siders at 800+ft, or is the airmass pretty warm throughout and not susceptible to small elevation differences? -

So essentially this low really has to shift south for Seattle to see anything -

How much do we need this low to move south to make this a significant snow event for the Puget Sound? -

So essentially things moved north but Seattle is still off the table? -

My garage is roughly at ~1100 feet, there was intense graupel followed by intermittent snow. I'll post a picture from my yard tomorrow. -

3.2'' at my house here in Issaquah/Preston, pleasantly surprised after were supposed to get nothing! Is there any chance for something from the Saturday system now? -

Are the odds still extremely low for Seattle to get anything out of this? -

Seattle area could be really out of luck unless this low trends north exciting for Oregon folks tho! -

That would be epic... and would make this event historic no? From what I can find on the internet, Olympia's record daily snowfall was 14.2in in 1972 -

I'm pretty uninformed but essentially GFS favors SEA region for snow and ECMWF favors PDX? If ECMWF were to be correct would Seattle essentially see no precip? Praying for the NBM lol -

Is there just not enough precip headed for Seattle area to see considerable snow? Seems quite dry -

Why is this a rug pull, don't we have a pretty good shot at some cold and snow -

What does this mean for the eastside of seattle, especially areas at 500+ feet? Could we still see a large snow event? -

Does anyone have any quantitative numbers on where the warming has trended in the last few days? is it possible it wipes out the possibility of snow completely for Washingtonians, or does it mean we probably see temps in the 20s/30s instead of 10s? Also, call me out if I'm wrong here but is this not a positive trend for pure snow lovers, I assume slightly warmer temps helps precip. -

What is the trend of the GFS so far, if it were to be correct do we completely miss out on snow, or just experience less extreme cold and less snow? -

Thanks! I'll be paying attention this week. I live at ~1,000 feet so sometimes there can be freak moments where my neighborhood sees accumulation. I also told my girlfriend I would pick her up from UW on Thursday... looks like I might eat crow. -

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I've been checked out of this event and am having trouble understanding the situation: Seems like there is some disagreement between the GFS and ECMWF, is this centered around how hard the cold will it, the precipitation, or both? For people in the lowlands closer to the North Bend/Snoqualmie areas at 500+ feet elevation is there any chance of seeing snow Tues/Wed night or will we still probably have to wait until later in the week? Also, I know this is probably far out but is this event expected to have lifted by monday? I am supposed to fly back to college out of SeaTac and am wondering if I should look at preparing to miss the first week of class... Thanks! -
How much snow could we get before changing over to freezing rain/rain. Also will elevation play a major factor or not really?
-
The changeover to snow just happened in Issaquah/Preston. Absolutely dumping massive flakes, 33 degrees.
-
Been kind of meh here so far, basically T-1'' with temp sitting at 31, honestly there just hasn't been enough precip here so far. I feel like we will get enough tomorrow morning but by then it will be too warm

Moderate snow falling here, about 3/4 inch of new accumulation. Roads are coated and car just slid into the ditch by my house.
