  1. yeah, wish things had worked out better this winter but some years just suck in the snow department. This just seems like a week of kitsap and 500’ snow levels coming up. I don’t think many places being shown to get lowland snow on these snow maps will either. Even the vaunted euro seems to really struggle in marginal snow situations nowadays. It does fine with non marginal temps but this set up it waaaay overdoes snow.
  2. I think a lot of people expecting to see snow along the I-5 corridor are going to be pretty disappointed when it doesn’t pan out. The typical spots will probably get some but most people probably won’t see more than some flakes mixed in with the rain.
  3. It’s basically over already…but doesn’t mean we won’t occasionally get some fog and cloudy days.
  4. Surprising how much snow is shown with those type of temps. Almost makes you wonder if most of us on the I-5 corridor aren’t going to see very much or anything unfortunately. Hopefully with the amount of chances we have coming up something will line up in the overnight hours perfectly.
  5. Yeah, I’ve heard it’s pretty amazing. Alaska and California are my next places I want to take my yearly vacation to check out all the national parks.
  6. Have always wanted to go to Northern California, but maybe next year. My big trip this year is going to be Vegas and a bunch of national parks down in the SW. Would really like to see the redwoods, lassen and Tahoe someday.
  7. It is interesting how we’re getting some La Niña like model runs in what you’d expect peak El Niño season like some people mentioned. The pattern is definitely a godsend for the mountains the next couple weeks…even if it doesn’t mean snow in the lowlands. Better late than never.
  8. In a perfect world I wouldn’t carry a gun either…but you never know who you’re going to encounter way out there in the wilderness. I know some people don’t feel it’s necessary and that’s fine I totally understand. In my opinion though those guys knowing I was carrying probably saved me from a bad situation.
  9. Most people way out in the wilderness are friendly. Almost every encounter I’ve had with hikers and campers has always been friendly. Most people way out in the sticks are genuinely nice friendly outdoors people. I don’t know what the deal was with those guys. I didn’t do anything to them I was just on a morning hike. I wasn’t on private property…so maybe they thought that area was “theirs” somehow and thought I was killing their privacy. It does freak me out that maybe if they thought I wasn’t armed that they intended to rob me.
  10. I came close to pulling my gun out on these guys who were driving their dirt bikes up and down this trail near me when I was by myself hiking a few years ago out near mt Adams. At first I didn’t think anything of the guys passing by me a couple times…but then they drove up the trail a ways around a corner and stopped. It was like they were trying to hide from me. I had a gut feeling that something was up. I had my gun in my pocket ready. I walked by him and tried to say hello to him to diffuse the situation…but the guys just blankly stared at me and didn’t respond. They were definitely not friendly and trying to intimidate me. It was extremely freaky how they kept coming by me up and down the road sizing me up. I kept going and they drove off and I didn’t see them again. I think they could tell I had a gun in my pocket I just never had to pull it out thankfully.
  11. I go camping/hiking a lot, sometimes some very remote places. Honestly people scare me way more out in the wilderness than bears or mountain lions. I do carry bear spray and a handgun for any situation…but I’ve seen bears out in the wild and never really been fearful. I’ve been in freaky situations seeing people way out in the woods multiple times. Part of why I don’t go by myself anymore.
  12. Yeah, it’s something I’m going to be more aware of. Even though the jobsites I work on are all like 50 yards or less from the freeway. There’s been a couple times where I’m just walking around in the dark at like 4 in the morning up there and just feel like someone or somethings watching me from the woods.
  13. That issaquah/snoqualmie area has had a few sightings and attacks in recent years. I work up in that area everyday…and I think I’ll try and be more cautious when I am up there at 4-5am. Even before the attack earlier this weekend I’ve thought about the times I’m walking around on the jobsites by myself.
  14. For awhile early on to me being here I honestly thought they were friends in real life or something and it was all some type of elaborate inside joke. I guess on a certain level it kind of is one big inside joke
  15. Both of you guys shouldn’t directly or indirectly quote or make comments toward/about eachother anymore. That would solve the majority of the bickering the forum sees. As entertaining as it may be at times it doesn’t look good on either of you when you do it. You’re both good contributors and I don’t want either of you guys to be banned or leave. I’m sure nothing will change with me saying this…but the solutions are there.
  16. Atleast we’re catching up on some mountain snows…hopefully can bump us a little closer to average regionally in the next couple weeks. Maybe some lowland snow for some of us or our resident foothill overlords but we will see.
  17. Could be much worse during this mega nino!
  18. Lord please give us some more interesting weather. Everyone starts fighting when things get slow
  19. Me personally I’m hoping that we’re all melted out in the high elevations by mid March and it doesn’t snow again until thanksgiving…but the snow even holding off until Christmas would be much better.
  20. I think something a lot of people do is just look at the snow maps…but don’t actually break it down based on surface temps and mid level temps. That was something big that I didn’t understand when I first started out on the forum. I just looked at a map and it says it’s gonna snow so it will!
  21. Yeah I agree, it’s not like Jim is saying it’s going to happen exactly like those +200 hour maps he knows that. It’s just fun to see some potential atleast way down the line with some of these good model runs at the very least.
  22. Yeah, was still an awesome winter though one of the better ones in my lifetime. Just a notch below 2008-2009 and 2018-2019.
  23. Yeah, if the January 2011 event had worked out…then it would’ve been the winter of the century past 2008-2009 and 2018-2019. 2 really good events and a near miss on a 3rd one. That miss in 2011 was pretty sad was forecast to be a week straight of snow and cold.
  24. There were multiple big events and a near miss on another big event as well. November 2010 had the 2nd most impressive Arctic blast of the century behind January 2024 as well as a few inches of snow IMBY. January 2011 was a near miss for a bigtime, February 2019 like pattern but in January. Went north last minute and we ended up getting an overrunning inch of snow and then 50s the next day. January miss ended up being forgiven by a pretty significant late season blast around Presidents’ Day 2011. Some very cold late season temps. Snow was hit or miss though. Lots of places around the central sound got 0-Tr. Had 7” of snow IMBY. Overall that was a very good winter here.
  25. We will see about later this month but I feel like something decent will happen in the western lowlands at least for this late in the season. I also am feeling a big winter like 2010-2011 next year.
