  1. Nope, he was towards the front and was one of the first. It was just weird, the guy seemed straight out of India/South Asia, why would you hate snow that badly? Lol. Along with me saying “hi, I crave snow”, there were snowboarders and skiers in my class who also loved snow so man was outnumbered
  2. First day for one of my classes at UWT went well. But during icebreakers, some dude went "Hi I'm ____ and I hate snow". Dunno why that actually irritated me and made me wonder who'd even introduce themselves like that. We live in Tacoma, not godd*mn Buffalo.
  3. Do you have any input on which town would be snowier overall, Rapid City or Sioux Falls? Tough decisions on a place to move if SD is still on my list in 5 years. As much as I'd love the Black Hills, they can kinda screw Rapid City of the heaviest snow.
  4. Happy New Years amigos, may the rest of this winter be blessed with good heavy snow and for all of us to have good health for the year!
  5. I couldn't help but see Yuma, Arizona at a sad 0.1" of rain. If there's one town in the Lower 48 I could think of that has the most excruciatingly boring weather that would drive weenies insane, it'd be Yuma. Instant move to Flagstaff for me.
  6. Not my pic but this is from 2 years ago in Japan after a late snowstorm, what I would give to experience UW's cherry blossoms during peak bloom with snowfall around here. The aesthetic even has a dedicated name for it called hanabie or "flower chilling", the phenomenon of flowers blooming during bitter cold. Something incredibly serene and calming to see the pink hues mix in with the white glow of snow. It'll be on the bucket list to experience snowy Japanese winters and springs one day.
  7. It's calmed down now and the lights never flickered during this whole event. Either Fife/Tacoma really upped their utilities (which would be absolutely astounding), or the windstorm flopped for the immediate area. There were some insanely strong gusts too for 10 minutes so it's impressive the power didn't go out.
  8. Honestly put me in there as an intern. Not majoring in meteorology or atmospheric sciences but at least I could be overly communicative and try to get the message across in layman terms.
  9. Those are some 60+ mph winds along Fife up to Alki
  10. Oof moment, I know how it feels. With how incredibly complex our area is for weather, I hope he doesn't beat himself hard for any mistakes. It just comes with the territory, gotta remind yourself that you're human after all.
  11. Preparing for outages during the ice storm paid off. Didn’t lose power somehow, but definitely may have blackouts this round. Feels like this windstorm didn’t catch much hype and the general public might be unaware of what’s to come. But if they panic bought before the snow and ice events, I’m sure they’ll be fine.
  12. Gonna be out for today so Merry Christmas to you all and have a great one! May the rest of our winter season be totally fetch!
  13. That is so sweet and I absolutely love it. All it needs is snow outside to make it the full absolute wonderland.
  14. I almost wanna say the Black Hills in SD where in Rapid City, the Chinook winds can rapidly raise the temps to 50-60F and create a warm bubble surrounded by cold air. That area's been on my bucket list to go hiking sometime. Still doesn't feel as impressive as the Gorge though.
  15. It feels great to just de-stress and not have to look at any maps with 110% model riding energy like the last two weeks were. A well deserved break just in time for mid-January!
  16. 54F and enjoying a Xmas party. Felt super warm and nearly tropical outside compared to the last two weeks.
  17. How is the windstorm potential looking for next week? Any new trends?
  18. When this is all said and done, can I keep the icicles for decor?
  19. Just woken up, I’m insanely impressed that I still have power around my area given the conditions. Or maybe I just jinxed it lol
  20. Power’s been holding here with no lights flickering. But who knows what I’ll wake up to some hours later. I would be lying if I said I didn’t stick out my arm out in the freezing rain just to see. The water feels like it very briefly freezes before melting on my hand. Such a weird tingly feeling, that’s a first to experience supercooled water.
  21. It’s just so unthinkable for me to have it RAIN at 23 degrees in our area. I never got to track and model ride in 2012 so I dunno how the temps were back then.
  22. Went from nothing to freezing rain here, no snow, sleet, or anything. Wild. Time to power down and unplug the Xbox again lol.
  23. Are you genuinely okay? You say it’s a weather forum but you’re here projecting and flexing your life when literally no one asked. And I mean no harm from this, I don’t got the clout to poke around here, but let people chill. It’s these things that snuff out the enthusiasm and fun out of this forum. Get some rest.
  24. Nothing at all in Fife yet and it’s been hours being under blue bands of snow on radar. I mean without radar, I would think it’d be a completely quiet night with nothing in store.
