  1. Anybody have a map of total snowfall for the season? I know I've seen one before can't find it.
  2. Thanks we have a big event Saturday night so we are watching this one close.
  3. The backside snow is fluffy and will really be able to blow around.
  4. From DMX this afternoon: "Similar to the previous winter weather event, models are initializing poorly with 18z Sun temperatures from source region (Kansas)... The GFS and especially ECMWF, in particular, have initialized anywhere between 5 and 10 degrees too warm with these temperatures. The NAM and the Canadian models have initialized the coolest and the best, so have leaned towards them for hourly sfc temps from 12z Mon-00z Wed." Might be reasoning behind the differences in snow maps
  5. All this soft powdery snow will be easy to blow around if the wind picks up today like they are forecasting.
  6. CR and IC look like they are about to get some good snow. Dubuque is right on the edge of the Northern Band, should start seeing snow as the dry pocket continues to collapse.
  7. I'm surprised on how far North some of these bands of snow are reaching into NE Iowa. I thought for sure upper NE Iowa would be done for the night.
  8. We finally have a dusting of pixie dust.
  9. Crazy storm. Looks like it might be further south than some of the models even had it. Hard to believe this big of a change occurred last night.
  10. I like Schnack and his "say it as it is" personality. However, I hated how guarded he was with his forecasts. He typically gives a blanket forecast for large parts of his viewing area. Large areas getting 2-6 inches of snow "with locally higher amounts possible".
  11. We really should have an answer soon on if the models are correct. The storm needs to start shifting East in the next hour for it to align with what models are predicting.
  12. Definitely been a good year for you guys.
  13. It is really interesting that this year the Southern part of Iowa has had significantly more snow than the Northern part. Just weird to me that this much snow is missing us to the South.
  14. I'm not convinced that this is going to drive as far South as some of the models are showing. Comparing the radar to model runs you start to see some disparities between the models and what's happening. (That line of snow through Nebraska from NE Corner to SW Corner was not that intense on any model and is pushing further North than most models had) It will be further South than 24 hours ago, I'm just not seeing as far as some are making it seem. Something to keep an eye on now that we are approaching "nowcast" time.
  15. Looks like the the northern counties of Iowa are getting some freezing rain this morning.
  16. Looks to me like it's not a southern shift that is happening, it's more a broader swath of snow that is probably from the cooler temperatures. I doubt we see as much rain/freezing rain in the areas that are now seeing snow. My forecast has yet to change for my area further North in Iowa. Southern shift would have decreased my totals.
  17. Reports of 15 inches here. Snow is so wet and heavy it kept clogging the snow blower.
  18. I just edited it. It stated "reported by KWWL" but I think it was just KWWL getting the measurement from the public and sharing with DMX. I saw KWWLs report below it after posting
  19. Trained spotter just reported 7.5" 2 Miles NE of Fort Dodge, Iowa
  20. That's the million dollar question. Will the bands entering Iowa move E or NE
  21. I think everyone is going to keep their predictions hoping that things shift North Saturday. Won't make them look "as bad"
