  1. Either false radar echoes or a lot of precipitation that wants to fall but just won't. Had some sprinkles earlier, but still nothing measurable.
  2. High clouds (above 11,000 ft) mixed with lower rain-affiliated clouds today. Massive subtropical moisture plume entering the region from the south and southeast this afternoon, it's looking more and more like it wants to rain. As is typical with subtropical storms that enter our region from the south, it's relatively warm ahead of the rain.
  3. Had some light rain just now, but nothing measurable. Looks like my prediction of up to 0.01" was overly-ambitious.
  4. Just out of interest, I still have the minute-by-minute data from my weather station back during the December 30-31 2014 snowstorm we got here. The rain transitioned to full-blown snow precisely at the 33.3 F mark, as I recall it. It shows that precipitation continued falling to noon that day, but actually it had stopped after 5 AM - the snow accumulating in my rain gauge bucket gradually melted and produced precipitation readings throughout the morning. Note the high temperature of only 47 F later that day, and that was in full sunshine.
  5. Predictions of between 0.10" and 0.25" here again through tomorrow night. If it goes anything like the last "storm", that means we should get about 0.01".
  6. Windy today. Doesn't look like we'll be getting any residual showers after all. So much for totals of between 0.10" and 0.25".
  7. Got 0.02" overnight, otherwise pretty uneventful. Next real chance of rain begins on Sunday.
  8. 0.25" at my location since midnight, the rain has stopped for now. Wish I could see what the heck was hitting me on radar.
  9. Heavy rain right now for the first time in a while. 0.34" yesterday, 0.02' in the last 60 seconds since midnight Edit: I was on the receiving end of a direct hit of whatever cell just passed over my area. 0.10" in just 9 minutes. Still going. 0.15" since midnight (only 20 minutes ago) and rising. This is the disadvantage of KNKX being down - I can't see what's hitting my area on radar at all, there's just nothing. The only other weather station online that I can see nearby currently reporting rain is De Luz, about 10 miles directly southwest of me. 0.12" there since midnight, they're getting hit by the same thing that's hitting my location right now. 0.17" now
  10. Just had another minute of light rain, 0.32" for the day.
  11. Getting intermittent light showers that aren't showing up on radar at all. Hey, I'm not complaining.
  12. Just 0.25" since midnight and I see patches of blue sky now. Doppler radar is emptying out. This storm might have been a dud. Most of the energy was concentrated north and west of Los Angeles, with precipitation totals falling off sharply to the south. San Diego only has 0.01" so far. This is one of the rare winter storms where orographic lift did not seem to occur or play any part at all - many mountain and foothill locations were even drier than some valley locations, oddly enough.
  13. Getting more consistent clusters of showers now. 0.03" Edit (3:21 AM): Some very close-proximity thunder here.
  14. Okay. In the space of just 30 seconds, we went from no rain, to very heavy rain (for about 10 seconds), and back to no rain again. Didn't register in my rain gauge yet everything is soaked outside, whereas it was dry before. I've never seen a burst of rain begin and end so quickly before. Edit: Thunder here now.
  15. Past midnight and still no rain. Radar showing the moisture plume hitting to the northwest but missing areas south and east of L.A. entirely.
  16. Another band of rain just passed over us, according to radar, but didn't drop anything at all here.
  17. Looking great out there right now. 0.01" for the day.
  18. Getting darker and windier now, despite it being 2 PM.
  19. NWS San Diego says the KNKX radar will be offline for the next three weeks while it is being upgraded. I wish they had waited until the summer to do it. Santiago Peak blocks KSOX from seeing my area and all the other radars are too far away.
  20. I suspected that might provoke a response from you While not as mobile, I still enjoy a constant rain for a few days. It brings a rare, unique atmosphere that I find pleasant. Especially if I have the fireplace going.
  21. 0.67" at my place when it was all said and done. It was nice but a bit too short-lived for me, I prefer long, drawn-out storms. Looking forward to more rain later this week, and potentially heavy rain on Friday.
  22. Showers stopped before midnight. All remaining moisture seems confined to the mountains now.
  23. There's still a persistent weak, but steady moisture flow over the Pacific towards Southern California. Keeping the ground wet, at least. 0.65" here
  24. Rain is slowing down now. Hope it picks back up soon but I believe the brunt of the storm has passed.
