  1. NWS Hastings is now talking about this potential storm but right now it is still early. They mentioned the Euro and how cold and snowy it was. What a November this could be.
  2. My son and I are coming to Lincoln for the game next Saturday. Winter weather gear for sure.
  3. Itching for wintery weather here, but I think back to last year we had virtually nothing until right before Christmas. Around this area, if we have a large November snow storm it usually bodes well for the rest of the winter. I know in some places in this vast forum, that is not the case.
  4. Mid 40’s here in Central Nebraska at 7 pm. Lots of trick or treaters out and about. Much different weather than October 31, 1991. We were in the middle of a massive blizzard that delayed Halloween for over a week. Man that was awesome. I was just starting college at The University of Nebraska at Kearney and we got several days off, unheard of at the time for a college in Nebraska to ever close.
  5. NWS Hastings basically saying northwest flow for awhile with periodic precipitation chances with anything of substance north and east of us. Maybe some changes by the middle of November, we’ll see.
  6. I teach high school so not a big deal, but many elementary and middle school teachers have wondered if Halloween could ever be moved to the last Friday or Saturday of October. When Halloween falls during the week, the next day at school is tough for kids that may have stayed up way to late or ate months worth of sugar that evening. I usually have students ask me if we have school the day after Halloween, even though we always do. Those might be HS students out causing some "mischief". I was perfect, ha ha, so I would have never thought about having some "fun" on Halloween.
  7. You are correct. GFS and the new PV3 GFS are showing a very active time as the calendar turns into the 2nd week of November
  8. This might be a fun system. Too bad it is at 384 hours on the GFS.
  9. Looks really quiet around here for the next 10 days or so. Maybe a system in the Nov. 10-11th time frame. This northwesterly flow pattern is really not conducive to much moisture in my area. Probably will be in and out of windy systems with very little moisture. Will need this pattern to become more southwestly and slow down if we want anything of value around here imo.
  10. 75 yesterday 75 today. Where did our cooler weather go? I would say 90-95% of trees are bare and a cold front is approaching in the next 3 hours that will shift winds to the Northwest at over 45 mph. By tomorrow morning everything should be bare
  11. Moderate rain falling for the last hour with a temp of 47. Latest forecast has upped amounts here to around 1”. It is knocking the rest of the leaves off the trees.
  12. Amazing and strange fall. 2 weeks ago I couldn’t believe nothing had changed color. The cold really sped up the process and shriveled leaves. They will mow up much better imo.
  13. I actually did the same. Grilled some burgers on the deck, mid 60’s with sunshine, and watched the remaining leaves fall off our backyard tree.
  14. Leaves falling like crazy here even though the wind is maybe only 20 mph. I would say 1/2 the trees in town are now bare and most of the rest will be gone in the next few days. My trees should be bare by tomorrow. Over 3 weeks earlier than last. Does this mean anything, I don’t know.
  15. We certainly believe so. Trying to set a rushing record vs. our young kids late in the 4th quarter. We told our team, which is very young, remember this in the future.
  16. Just announced on the radio during the news, reporter says The National Weather Service is predicting above average temps and below normal precipitation for Nebraska this winter. I seem to hear that forecast by the NWS every year at this time. Hope they are proven wrong.
  17. Upper 60's today, nice. State Cross Country this afternoon in Kearney and our last football game at Kearney Catholic this evening with beautiful weather all day and evening. Where did the fall athletic season go?
  18. I guess we wait for next year. I did lose some today and I think by next week many trees will be bare. I guess we can look forward to snow instead of color, that would be all right.
  19. We have talked about leaves before on here. It is a very strange look around my town. Some trees are completely empty of leaves now, some are still greenish but the leaves shriveled up on our low 20's nights. They are just waiting for a strong wind and it will be a leaf blizzard around here. Very few trees have good color. Disappointing if you like to look at color of the trees changing. My neighbor lost all of his leaves last week that fell as green leaves. I am jealous that his pick up work is now complete on his yard. I am just waiting for our shriveled leaves to fall.
  20. I would love the 2000 analog. My daughter was born in Dec. of 2000, she's a senior now, and we had a large snowstorm in Nov. of 2000 when my wife was 8 months pregnant. I am also a teacher and that winter of 2000-2001 we had 7 snow days. We actually had to make up 2 days in May, first and only time we have ever had to make up days. Our school district builds in hours, usually about 5 snow days a year equivalent to that.
  21. Not all that great in my area. More east of me in Grand Island and Hastings. We had the Christmas blizzard but it was much worse east of my location.
