Its definitely going to get worse this week. I wonder why its been so bad? It has not been that hot and we are coming off record setting rain. I know in SoCal... excessive winter rains usually make the next fire season much worse.

Pretty insane. The ridge look decent at the 500mb level... but it does not strike me as something that would result in the hottest temperatures ever recorded for many spots. MOS guidance has SEA peaking at 100 on Thursday. And Bellingham might just get above the normal high for Portland at this time of year... but just barely.

No... but there will be fires and there be people evacuated on the dry side of the mountains in the summer. Its not like its been catastrophic... it was still very wet last month. And will be very wet again in a couple months.

Wow... that is essentially the same as Seattle right now. And Seattle had a high of 81 today which was 4 degrees warmer than DC.

The upcoming heat wave will not fit that description... but the weather has been near perfect for all of July and fires on the other side of the mountains are to be expected at this time of year.

Phil is missing a big rain event at home while enjoying the endless light rain off the coast of BC. DCA is approaching 3 inches since this afternoon.

Perfect day today... mostly sunny and 80 here. Persistence would be nice.

55 and raining there... wind is not that strong though.

Ironically... Phil is leaving town just as the heat wave is starting. That is the opposite of what he predicted. A recurring theme this summer.

I am aware. 65 with showers is less than ideal... but so is 105 and sunny.

18Z GFS is certainly not backing down... and maybe extending the heat. We will be in Minnesota one week from today... looks chilly there while its baking here.

Would be nice if we could have today's weather all of next week instead.

New 12Z ECMWF surface map does show mostly sunny skies for everyone by 5 p.m. but it will probably take until mid to late afternoon to really break up.
