January 2015 Observations for the Pacific Northwest
Deweydog replied to Skagit Weather's topic in West of the Rockies
Definitely not saying it's likely, in fact I highly doubt it is. But there are a laundry list of excellent analogs for that exact progression. As for the run to run volatility, we are talking about 7+ days here.- 3540 replies

What's strange about it? It's about as run-of-the-mill west coast retrogression as you can get.- 3540 replies

If you ignore the cut off low off the California coast, hour 384 is an absolutely classic retrogression set up. #20dayGFS!- 3540 replies

January 2015 Observations for the Pacific Northwest

Yeah, I don't see it. The pattern evolutions over most of the past year have been remarkably predictable, practically speaking. I reckon that'll continue.- 3540 replies

January 2015 Observations for the Pacific Northwest

Ah. Obviously it's not as simple as we would like to think. I think it's certainly good for pause for thought when our single greatest winter positive anomaly (by a long shot) has occurred in what, at best, was a very weak +ENSO event. Especially during what is presumed to be the midst of a negative phase.- 3540 replies

I think he's looking for a more worldly explanation. And amplify? If anything, the PDO in years where the summer numbers spike high/low tend to snap back toward zero during the cold season more often than not.- 3540 replies

Just a bit more positivity for your life about last month's reading. It's actually the highest winter reading in the last 114 years by quite a margin. Unbelievable how everything can be lined up perfectly yet we still get farked in the oos!- 3540 replies

January 2015 Observations for the Pacific Northwest
Deweydog replied to Skagit Weather's topic in West of the Rockies
Yeah... then nothing, save for a nice against the grain brief event down here late in the month. Regardless of how some people think we're currently getting "fooked in the a$$" a few years from now people will be able to put some perspective on it and realize we had three (at least) decent cold snaps. We can do a lot worse.- 3540 replies
