  1. I picked up 0.20" of rain overnight, the first real rain in eighteen days.
  2. If anyone was considering subscribing to a models site for the winter, weathermodels.com, Ryan Maue's company, is about to go up in price again. It is currently $10 per month, but is rising to $13 on October 30th. However, if you subscribe by the 29th you can remain at $10 per month.
  3. The Cedar Rapids airport sure dives fast on good radiational cooling nights. It's already down to 26 out there in the country. It's still 35 downtown and about 33 here.
  4. Iowa City just reported a gust of 59 mph. Cedar Rapids 53 just now.
  5. It's going to be a windy football game in Iowa City (vs Maryland) midday Saturday.
  6. We had our first real freeze this morning. The hummer feeder had some slush in it, so the temp must have dropped solidly below freezing.
  7. Once again, we did not freeze this morning here in the city. However, there's a solid frost and all the real tender plants are toast. Fortunately, there is only one hummingbird remaining. The rest of October looks like a real snoozer.
  8. I just got my first freeze. It only fell below 32 for about an hour, though.
  9. Even when the better radar returns passed over Cedar Rapids last night, I still only saw a few flurries.
  10. It's looking like I won't get anything more than a few sprinkles this evening and then a few flurries at best tonight.
  11. This is a pretty impressive system. Frankly, I don't want it because I still have 4-5 hummingbirds and it'll be tough enough for them when the plants die in the morning. And this morning you thought you were getting little/nothing. Must be a great surprise. I hope to get a nice surprise dumping in a couple months.
  12. Here's the Creighton University cam in Omaha. It's really coming down at the moment. http://typo3.creighton.edu/?id=68712
  13. We had a freeze warning Friday morning and a frost advisory this morning, but neither panned out. The airport hit 31 Friday morning, but here in the city we only hit the mid 30s. Last night we only briefly fell into the upper 30s before rising into the low 40s this morning, so no frost. It looks like a better chance Monday morning behind the snow system. Much of Iowa should freeze. I still have four hummingbirds and many of the salvia plants look best this time of year, just before getting killed by freeze.
  14. Wow, I had no idea that much snow fell in eastern North Dakota. I was busy following the hurricane.
  15. Yeah, Michael popped out of the typical late-season Central American gyre. Originally, it wasn't expected to be a huge deal. I remember the euro model originally had a typical sloppy tropical storm hitting the coast. One major positive is it appears the center will hit east of Panama City. West of Panama City would have been devastating.
  16. I picked up another 0.80" of rain late yesterday and overnight. My 10-day total will finish at 3.77". That's on the low end of the expected range, but still a nice chunk of water.
  17. I picked up about a quarter inch of rain overnight. In the last hour, I picked up another quarter inch in only five minutes from a tiny, but potent cell.
  18. Models have been struggling with the pattern once the big midweek storm pulls out, which is causing Sergio's remnants to spray all over the place from run to run. The 12z euro is back to showing significant digging of a trough in the west, which pulls Sergio right up across the midwest.
  19. A couple freezes are popping up in our late week to weekend forecast. I understand a lot of us are looking forward to this, but I still have seven hummingbirds and a yard full of tender plants. I'm going to have to cover plants, which is always a pain.
  20. Yes, there was a line of storms that briefly dumped very heavy rain here this morning. Large drops really pounded the roof. Yesterday through this morning I've received 1.57", with most of that falling early this morning. I was worried this entire wet period would bust, but this rain more than doubled my 8-day total. The WPC has another couple inches falling.
  21. Iowa City is getting trained, Cedar Rapids is getting nothing. $%!!! Dang HRRR has been exactly right all day, unfortunately. This entire week has been a bust for CR.
