Everything posted by Hawkeye

  1. I picked up a real nice 0.80" from the line of storms that moved through tonight.
  2. Lincoln got clobbered as well. There's a report of 87 mph just nw of town, plus several wind damage reports.
  3. 88 mph wind gust at the OAX NWS office.... wow!
  4. Today's HRRR runs are showing this evening's event playing out similarly to last evening's, with strong storms in northeast Iowa and southwest Iowa, with not much in between.
  5. I only picked up 0.25" as well. I'm glad the large hail missed, though. Tom, the NAM maps you posted are showing the Friday evening convection, not the Saturday event DVN is hyping in their discussion. Most models are keeping the Saturday event south and east of Cedar Rapids.
  6. The severe stuff bypassed me. One cell popped up just west and had hail, but it weakened as it moved over me, just dropped a couple tenths of an inch of rain. I did get wind gusts to 40 mph again from the storms passing north.
  7. Waterloo/Cedar Falls are getting hammered with large hail. So far storms have fired in ne and sw Iowa, but nothing in between.
  8. We just received our first rain in 18 days as a little disturbance passing through the state fired a line of storms just before reaching CR. I picked up a nice half inch, enough to give all the plants a decent soak and fill the rain barrel.
  9. This weekend will be two weeks without rain and we may not get much next week, either. Add to that the upcoming scorcher. We are going to need the second half of June to come through.
  10. My yard has averaged eight inches of rain in June over the last decade, a pretty amazing number. This June is at least starting out very differently.
  11. Yes, it's looking pretty toasty here the next few days. At the same time, models have really dried up. The garden really needed some warm, dry weather, and they got it. I hope we don't go too far the other way, though.
  12. Happy b'day, Tom. Today is the best weather day we've had in quite a while. It really couldn't be any nicer. The garden is getting full sun for once, which it badly needed.
  13. I picked up a nice 0.76" from the morning MCS. My May total is up to 4.22".
  14. We have finally put the chilly weather behind us. We have a lot of pleasant 70s on the way. On the other hand, the nw flow pattern over the next 7-10 days should be snoozeville. Over the last decade, June has been a big rain/storm month for my area, so hopefully something interesting will pop up after the upcoming benign period.
  15. A nice line moved through my area this evening. I avoided anything severe... no hail, sub-60 wind.
  16. The euro has lows here in the upper 60s a couple times next week. We're going right into summer.
  17. You must be thinking of some other poster who farms. From what I've seen, local fields are mixed... some look plowed and ready/planted, some don't. I'll be getting my peppers in this weekend. I have a lot of other flowers that need to be planted, but I have to wait til the ground dries again.
  18. Our weather is looking increasingly warm this weekend into next week. Models have been wavering with the position of the front, but the northward surge is currently winning.
  19. A decent little cluster of storms passed through Cedar Rapids late this evening. I received some heavy rain(0.50"), pea size hail, and vivid lightning/thunder.
  20. We had a pretty great weekend with upper 60s to low 70s. There has been a major lack of south wind the last couple weeks, though, which is keeping some bird migrants away. I'm still waiting for catbirds, orioles, and hummers. They are officially getting a bit late.
  21. We reached 72 this afternoon with a generally moderate wind. This is good stuff, especially after the dreadful week we recently had. DVN is thinking frost will be a bigger deal up by Dubuque this weekend. I noticed some of the least cold-hardy plants outside at the area garden centers got zapped by the frost early this week.
  22. The GFS and Euro both have a pretty awful-looking omega block pattern locking in over the next ten days for folks out east. Farther west, we would be in a good spot for pleasant, dry weather, if not overly warm. Even temps a bit below average are pretty nice in May.
  23. 0.94" today thanks to some heavy showers this evening. My final April total is 6.68".
  24. Boy, after this first huge wet system and another one over the southeast and east coast later next week, there will barely be any drought areas left in the entire country. Even abnormally dry areas will be few and far between.
