  1. It's a very pleasant day over here, the warmest day in a couple weeks. That's a pretty-looking map. We don't need any big drought to blow up over the central US. We are not dry, but I'd love to see some big soaker systems drop a couple inches and really get everything greened up.
  2. My storm total snow is 4.6 inches with a liquid total of 0.40".
  3. Waterloo received a whopping 10.4 inches.
  4. The storm was pretty good for the first couple hours last evening. I received 2.8 inches in the first 2.5 hours. Since then, I've only received an additional 1.5 inches in 8 hours. I won't have to gas up the blower because the pavement only has a couple inches on it. Given the cold three days leading up to this storm, I thought it would pile up better on the pavement.
  5. I had 2.8 inches at 10:30pm. The heavier snow appears to be over. The rest of the night the snow should be light to occasionally moderate. I was thinking 3-6" for a total. Given we've already reached the low end we should be able to get about 6 by morning.
  6. They've been doing pre-blizzard coverage all day and when it begins they'll be nonstop. They'll have people in DC, Philly, NYC, and Boston and their experts will be in the studio. There's nothing going on tonight and TWC has never had live weather coverage overnight if there's nothing big going on.
  7. It began snowing at 8pm and we already have over an inch. It's really dumping.
  8. Very dry. I had a bit of light snow an hour ago with an initial band, but I'm still waiting for the main batch, currently over me on radar, to saturate the column. Bud has not seen a flake, yet.
  9. Little has changed with the morning model runs.... now waiting to see if the Euro holds onto last night's south shift.
  10. That is a nice shift back south from the Euro. Ryan Maue just tweeted the 10:1 ratio snow map.
  11. The Des Moines nws tweeted they had 1.2" so far. Some models went so dry they removed all snow, so that was clearly wrong.
  12. God, this stupid winter needs to die already. I finally begin to get excited about a nice snow to end the dreadful snow season, then the euro yanks it away again. I can't believe the dang low may go right over us. EVERY low this winter has gone over us.
  13. UK has jumped sw, now has best snow from Lincoln southward.. Omaha doesn't even get 0.20" precip this run. http://img.meteocentre.com/models/ukmet_amer_12/accum/PA_000-060_0000.gif
  14. Haven't heard of any, but it may be tough to confirm any brief spinups in the dark. Mostly, there are just a lot of 60-70 mph wind reports.
  15. A lot of excitement over here. There was 80-90 mph wind reported west of Cedar Rapids. Then we had sirens going off for a possible brief spinup sw of the city. There was a lot of nice lightning with fairly calm conditions, then a wall of 50 mph wind, torrential rain, and small hail hit instantly.
  16. I think what that 144 hr snowfall map is showing is the first system this weekend grows as it leaves Iowa, and then the second system is organizing at the end of the run to the nw. I'd like to see the next day or two of snowfall.
  17. Yeah, the GFS was a showing a chilly, clippery pattern a couple days ago, but much warmer this morning. That makes me happy.
  18. 0.9" was my total from the light backwash snow.
  19. A line of cells with small hail passed through here late this evening, so I at least got something interesting from this system. The rest of the night looks pretty quiet.
  20. As models suggested, the max warmth ended up in the full sun area between the morning fog to the east and the approaching front. Cedar Rapids hit 76, blowing away the old February record(73). I saw the first robin and first red-winged blackbird today, 2-3 weeks earlier than any of the last several years.
  21. 0.31" of rain here yesterday. My daffodils are popping as well.
  22. Our rain today won't add up to too much, but we're getting a few brief heavy downpours. I love heavy rain.
  23. The rain didn't begin here until afternoon, but the clouds held our max temp down to 60. I'm looking forward to seeing how warm we can get Wednesday.
