  1. Pretty incredible with the temps yesterday. Here is the link to the record that was set at both Hastings and GI, all time records as I thought would happen. http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=GID&product=PNS&issuedby=GID
  2. Yeah this is crazy, we could see a record for all time warmest day in October.
  3. I would do anything to be there and experience the frenzy! Jake pitched an amazing game, I'm looking forward to the rest of the postseason. I'm doing my best to secure postseason tickets in the nlcs should they make it there......today was the deadline to apply for those tickets.
  4. Top 5 warmest for my CWA. http://www.weather.gov/gid/top10warm_September
  5. Looks fun tom!! Now you can get back to the norm and get ready for postseason Cubs baseball!! Go Cubs go!!!
  6. I seen that! A lot of cars where stalled out and schools in the Council Bluffs area were called off because roads were impassable. Quiet the surprise for that area for sure....I'm hoping to see some rain tonight.
  7. Looks like some nasty storms for you guys in Chicago. Good thing it didn't happen today so the Cubs could continue the winning streak!! Seen some decent rain and hail cover the ground this morning around my area. Now windows are open and enjoying the cool fall air.
  8. Three tornado warnings and numerous thunderstorm warnings but no watches. I would say the nws must have been on a coffee break this afternoon.......
  9. Hey guys long time no talk, thanks for posting all the good info it's been great! My biggest worry about a super El Niño is traditionally around here in nebraska means a warmer and less snowy winter. I was looking back and anything over 2.0 meant a back loaded winter with season snow totals in the 12-20" range for Lincoln. The winter of 09-10 was around a 1 and we know how that ended up.....two major blizzards with one on x mas eve. Of course the nao and ao both stayed negative pretty much all winter so hopefully the LRC sets up in all of our favors!!
  10. Pretty crazy rain totals for my county. I received around 3" in two days, to my north there was 8-10" totals and numerous roads washed out or flooded. The platte river jumped back up and is pretty much full from bank to bank. FLOOD ADVISORY FOR... NORTHERN POLK COUNTY IN EAST CENTRAL NEBRASKA... * UNTIL 815 PM CDT TUESDAY * AT 1120 AM CDT...THE POLK COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE REPORTED MANY GRAVEL ROADS REMAIN CLOSED DUE TO STANDING WATER. SOME OF THESE GRAVEL ROADS HAVE BEEN WASHED OUT IN SPOTS. RAINFALL OVER THE PAST TWO DAYS HAS BEEN ESTIMATED AROUND 9 INCHES OVER NORTHEASTERN POLK COUNTY. * FLOODING WILL REMAIN OVER MAINLY RURAL AREAS OF CENTRAL POLK COUNTY.
  11. It's crazy to think we would be affected by smoke from Canada but we sure are. I can smell it and see the haze in the air, must be some massive fires up in that area. Picked up an 1" of rain over night pushing my total in July up over 2.5" already. Gotta like the start for July which can turn dry pretty quickly......
  12. Friday's threat has shifted about 50 miles to the west and north. I'm no longer included in the Enhanced threat, will see how that changes between now and then...... http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.html
  13. Well I picked up an inch of rain last night, and it was a nice soaking rain. My rain total so far this month is around 3.5" and we are only in Mid May. A good start to the spring for sure; the chance for severe storms increase this weekend with a pretty good chance Friday night and again Saturday night. Just in time for graduations!

  15. Received 1.3" from yesterday morning up until this morning. Of course it's not quiet as much as southeast Nebraska were some places received 7-9" of rain! Republic County in Kansas was in a tornado warning 13 different times yesterday, that's insane! This was certainly a surprise outbreak for a small area in Nebraska and Kansas.
  16. Some pretty strong wording coming from the SPC boys about today. If we get some clearing things might get really interesting today and into tonight. Upgraded to "Enhanced" for this afternoon. NEB/KS... THE MAIN SHORTWAVE TROUGH TODAY IS CURRENTLY OVER WESTERN KS...AND WILL ROTATE NORTHEASTWARD INTO CENTRAL/EASTERN NEB AND CENTRAL/EASTERN KS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. STRONG SOUTHERLY LOW LEVEL WINDS OVER THIS REGION WILL MAINTAIN SURFACE DEWPOINTS IN THE 60S...WITH AFTERNOON HEATING YIELDING MLCAPE VALUES OF 1500-2000 J/KG. 12Z GUIDANCE IS CONSISTENT ON DEVELOPING ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS OVER NORTH CENTRAL KS BY MID AFTERNOON. FORECAST SOUNDINGS AHEAD OF THIS ACTIVITY SHOW SUBSTANTIAL LOW LEVEL AND DEEP LAYER SHEAR FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF VERY LARGE HAIL AND POSSIBLY STRONG TORNADOES. THIS ACTIVITY IS LIKELY TO TRACK INTO SOUTH-CENTRAL NEB BY LATE AFTERNOON WITH A CONTINUED SIGNIFICANT SEVERE THREAT. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html
  17. Yikes!! http://mag.ncep.noaa.gov/Image.php?fhr=114&image=data%2Fgfs%2F18%2Fgfs_namer_114_precip_ptot.gif&model=gfs&area=namer&param=precip_ptot&group=Model+Guidance&preselected_formatted_cycle_date=20150505+18+UTC&imageSize=M&ps=model
  18. 18z gfs smokes us with overnight thunderstorms.......up to .6" so far and planted a 165 hills of potatoes last Saturday.....soak baby soak!
  19. We have fat snowflakes and it's just pouring snow out there! We might get a coating of snow before all is said and done. We will take the precip any way we can get it!
  20. Grass fires have been a major problem along I-80 from north platte all the way to Seward. They were all separate but just goes to show you how dry of a day it was.
  21. The wife and I were on a walk with the daughter earlier today and seen the cold front blow on thru. It went from dead calm to blowing dust and strong north winds. Impressive heat this time of year with extremely dry air. A spread of 90/3 temp to dew point is very dry. Last time we had temps this warm in March we went from wet soil to extreme drought in a matter of a month and a half. That was back in 2012 when we had the driest July on record. Not saying that will happen this year; using the LRC this is the warm cyle. When the cold cycle hits, which is in a matter of a week or two, we will see some interesting weather around these parts. That's when the nao/ao are both forecasted to go negative.

  23. Tell me Tom, what is the LRC showing for the east coast around March 20-25? I have a friend of mine who will be taking his class to Washington DC and would like to give him a forecast of what it will be like then. You know how to read the LRC better than I do so anything you can give me would be great! Thanks!
  24. Actually Tom, this is the Science Teacher in me talking, you mean the spring (Vernal) Equinox. The Solstices occur in June and December!!
