The 12z GFS this past Tuesday had today’s low way up north. It trended way south as we got closer to today’s event. -

I’m hoping you don’t lose power! Is that the most ice you’ve ever gotten? -

00z HRRR says there will still be moisture around 8pm-10pm tonight over PDX Metro. Still got several more hours before we dry out. -

Boom there we go! I think the models will trend further south with the low in the next few days. The east winds will still be blowing pushing cold air west of the Cascades. The system will not be able to make it north and will get suppressed. That’s what I’m thinking right now. -

Mark is going with an ice storm down here Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning. With all the sleet here it’s going to melt slower compared to snow and then you add ice on top of that. It’s going to be a long thawing out process especially East Metro. -

I want this to trend south so you guys up there can get some snow too. -

Wow, there’s still going to be a strong Cold Pool in the Columbia Basin. If that low tracks south into Oregon. We could see a big overrunning event. -

Arctic air has made it as far south between Eugene and Florence/Roseburg. Almost a 30 degree temperature difference. -

The more N/NW this deformation band extends the more wrap around moisture we should get later this afternoon/evening. I’m liking most people in Metro to see a few inches of snow before the system moves on through. -

As the low moves onshore we should cool off in the upper atmosphere and at the same time there should be enough wrap around moisture to give everybody a few inches as we dry out this evening. -

Heavy snow/sleet right here at the moment. Everything is covered in white. The snow/sleet combo is making things really solid and packed in. -

10 in Happy Valley and 9 in the West Hills in the middle of the day. This winter storm is one for the ages! -

The heavy snow has tapered off here but looks like juicier moisture is about to arrive soon in the Metro area. -

Crazy that while we are experiencing extreme cold/snow/wind, 2 NFL wildcard games this weekend are being impacted by winter weather as well. They just postponed the Bills/Steelers game because of blizzard conditions to Monday. They were thinking of postponing the Chiefs/Dolphins because of extreme cold/windchill but they decided to move on with the game. This storm will be forever remembered as the NFL Wildcard Saturday PDX blizzard snow/sleet/wind storm! -

Check out this blog post Mark made a while back. In the Columbia Gorge they can get huge sleet drifts. It looks just like snow too, the reason some call it “tapioca snow”. They can get up to 20 feet high! https://fox12weather.wordpress.com/2014/03/03/sleet-drifts-in-the-gorge/ -

Still heavy snow here but sleet mixing in at times and with the huge gust you can hear them smash against the window. Hoping it goes back all snow this afternoon when heavier moisture comes in. -

Nope, it’s still offshore and will remain there until sometime this evening. Heavier snow is on the way later this afternoon!
