  1. Went to dinner with my brother the other night and we reminisced about Seattle winters growing up. Does anyone remember calling the old NWS number (206) 526-6087 and hearing the old British guy say "turning unseasonably cold at the end of the week" or "getting colder throughout the day with snow developing" as an arctic front nailed us. That seemed like a LONG time ago...
  2. NWS discussion: .LONG TERM...CONFIDENCE REMAINS LOW IN THE EXTENDED FORECAST GIVEN CONSIDERABLE MODEL VARIATIONS. KEPT AT LEAST CHANCE POPS IN FOR ALL PERIODS THURSDAY INTO THE WEEKEND...ALTHOUGH SOME DRY PERIODS ARE LIKELY BETWEEN SYSTEMS WHICH CANNOT BE TIMED OUT. SOME MODELS...ESPECIALLY THE GFS...ARE TRYING TO DIG A COLDER AIR MASS INTO THE AREA BY NEXT WEEKEND. THE ECMWF HAS BEEN RELUCTANT TO BRING THE COLDER AIR INTO WRN WA. STUCK WITH RAIN FOR THE LOWLANDS BUT SNOW LEVELS COULD BE QUITE LOW LOW BY SATURDAY...SOMETHING TO WATCH.
  3. heavy snow shower and sticking in West Seattle
  4. First flakes of the season in West Seattle. Temp still hovering around 40 though.
  5. Maybe everyone scores a little this time with a snow-shadow over Tim's house?
  6. Tip o' the cap boys, well played. Just bored with climo conditions and cold rain. On to the OO Euro...
  7. Dangling carrots, failed GFS runs, failed Euro runs, failed Canadian runs, failed dangling carrots of other failed dangling carrots that amount to zilch. Getting frustrated...Hard not to wish-cast around Christmas but jeesh--nothing positive happening with the exception of the nice haul in the mountains. Is it too much to ask for a quick 2-3 inch event that lasts 48-72 hours?
  8. I pose the question, what would you rather: Guaranteed Hawks victory in Minnesota tomorrow morning or a 4-5 inch snow event in SEA/PDX in mid-December that lasts at least 72 hours.
  9. Definitely don't want to move. Our weather is too interesting. It just makes it that much more satisfying when we actually do go get an extended period of cold/snow. I remember every Seattle snowstorm growing up. Where I was, what we did, how much sledding, etc. The town shuts down. I love that. Just want to share my same experiences with my kids some day. We haven't been able to use a sled or toboggan in some time. I love the warmer summer now too but would still trade a few days of snow for sun...
  10. Starting to wonder if Snoqualmie Pass will be a functional skiing option in the next 10 years and beyond...
  11. Exciting indeed. Waiting on DJ to verify model countdown excitement...
  12. Sigh. Was hoping for a little snow on the ground in Suncadia (2200 feet) for Turkey Day. Seems iffy.
  13. Random thought: does anyone recall the last time Seattle or Portland Metro had a winter storm warning issued?
  14. Will the central cascades get anything from Sun-Tues or trace amounts?
  15. Heading to the mountains (Suncadia) for Thanksgiving. Hoping for a little snow for the kids to play in up there... Snow chances minimal for even the mountains the next few days?
  16. Looks like I'll be in that all too familiar territory of telling friends (non weather followers) that "arctic air is coming" and then have them laugh at me when it falls apart again... Weather weenie to my core.
  17. Scott Sistek ‏@ScottSKOMO 27m27 minutes ago Is it really going to snow next week here? In a nutshell:Looks cold enough, but moisture lacking for big event. Maybe sct snow showers Tr-1" **I guess something is better than nothing before the torch...
  18. Any hope for the mountains next week?
  19. Very jealous of the east-coast event. Just curious, has the Seattle/Portland metro ever been issued a blizzard warning by the NWS?
