  1. Coldest anomalies were in CA. I think some places in the Sierra were over 10°F below average for the month.
  2. Everyone needs a vacation sometimes. Even El Nino.
  3. Deep enough trough that the coldest anomalies are in CA. Excellent for the Sierra.
  4. I regret to inform you that the Zimbabwe model shows a strong Nino next winter.
  5. Looks like the highest temp San Diego has seen this February is just 66. Parts of the PNW got warmer than that on 1/28!
  6. Will be passing through Tehama County on the way to Chico in a couple weeks. Hopefully I can get in another trip down that way before the school year ends.
  7. August 2019 average high was only +0.7 departure at EUG. The lows carried that month.
  8. Happy birthday Jim!! Hope you have a great one.
  9. Definitely excited for some big mountain snow. Hopefully I'll be able to get a snowshoeing trip in to take advantage of the conditions. That said, I don't really see anything coming up that we haven't seen in the last few Februaries and Marches.
  10. Still crazy we pulled such a big event out of such a crappy background state. Record warmth across much of the Northern Hemisphere and PDX, in a winter that otherwise might as well have happened 700 miles to the south, pulled off its coldest afternoon temp in decades.
  11. For comparison, the 1877-78 “Year Without A Winter”: November -2.0 December +11.8 January +5.6 February +10.9
  12. Average high at PDX and EUG is 51 now. Easy to forget it's not midwinter anymore.
  13. Even though it was a cold month it didn't feel excessively gloomy at all. The cold airmasses were so deep that the cloudiness/precip was suppressed south into California for the most part. Remember quite a few days with sunshine that felt warmer than they actually were.
  14. January/February 2022 was my freshman year here at OSU and I remember a girl from San Diego complaining about the lack of rain. I think she got her wish a couple months afterward.
  15. I slept through it. Looks like a lot of it just shows as mixed precipitation on that run.
  16. Did any model runs show anything more than like, an inch of wet slop for places 300 miles north of here?
  17. Not many places have that level of precipitation variability. Especially not outside of the tropics (NE Brazil and northern Australia come to mind).
  18. Back in Oregon today, 57 and sunny currently. Looks like I have a trip to CHICO booked in about a month. It's for a collegiate competition so I won't really get to explore the area unfortunately.
  19. In southern CA for the next couple days. It’s raining good here! Tons of water on the road which hopefully can be seen in this pic.
  20. The low life expectancy back then was because infant mortality was very high. Although this was also before antibiotics. A little cut or scrape becoming infected could easily turn into a "get it amputated or you die" situation.
