Lol. Why is 4 even an option? I think we all have biases we need to be self-aware of, especially if it affects those around us. Have kids gotten poor grades only because of the color of their skin? Absolutely. But I think there are better ways to address those biases racial disparities than to remove grading all together Related, I don't agree with Seattle Public Schools recent decision to get rid of the Gifted and Talented program. My son is going to be a (relative) genius kindergarter in the public schools not because he's smart or gifted (tbd), it's because his parents have time and mental space to read to him. And teach him numbers early. And sound letters. It's hard to do that when you're struggling to just put food on the plate. As my primary school teacher wife says, there's no such thing as a gifted and talented first grader. It's 100% privilege at that age. That percentage goes down as he gets older, but it absolutely will always help until the day he dies. so #2/#3 is my answer I guess.
