Back in the 90's there was an old IHOP commercial with a kid saying "Logistics, Cliff!" -

Did you make your own mix or does it work on kids bubble packs that you can get at parties? I have heard that there's a banana trick too. -

Will the Arctic front make it to Cancun? But seriously, any tips to avoid pipes bursting that doesn't require a lot of construction? Wife is the one who is good with tools but still at the hospital. On a fun note. Any other games or experiments you can do with kids when temps go negative? Some schools in Minnesota close for severe cold. Will any in the NW do so? What does the P.H.I.L model say? -

I usually think it looks like the old Twitter bird most of the time. Sometimes an angel or a stingray because I'm often just outside of it. -

It seems to be about 105F and about 5 to 10F respectively for the interior. For the west side I would say below 20F just feels really different with all that moisture. Cold cramping and cracked hands. -

Today I bought another sled (toboggan?), a car snow shovel, snow boots for myself and my son, but I was glad to find some thermal underwear for him since it's going to be so cold! Probably won't get to use the snow stuff much in my part of the state but at least it will help us stay warm. I thought about buying some ice melt, but I didn't use the bag last year at all after going through it a bunch in 2020 and 2021's seasons. -

So true. Coast, Islands, Sound, Puget Sound Lowlands, West Slopes, and the convergence zone. -

NWS Sacramento has the best graphics for the mountains every year. They show all the state routes and I-5 against a mountain graphic with places shown by elevation. I also like NWS Spokane's winter page. I think all NWS offices in the NW have one EXCEPT SEATTLE. https://www.weather.gov/otx/winter is Spokane's. Just replace otx with pqr -pdx redirects there too (Portland), mfr (Medford), pdt (Pendleton), mso (Missoula), boi (Boise), but SEW shockingly has no winter weather page. Places like SF Bay or LA don't need one and Sacramento does a very good job anyway of covering their mountains. But Seatte should have a winter page. It shows the full range of probabilities in addition to their official forecast up to 90% percentile and 10% percentile. -

It's funny because in Canada, the War of 1812 is everywhere. You Canadians are taught that you won the war (I actually tend to agree with that since you avoided being conquered). In the US we are taught that while we did try to capture Canada, the main focus was impressment of sailors, the US outgunning the British navy, and that the British burned down the White House in revenge for York(Toronto). It was really a draw but because of Baltimore / Star Spangled Banner and the rout of the British at New Orleans (after the war had ended), we felt good enough to call it a win. It's also funny because the war was huge for Canada remaining independent, but it has a lot of cultural significance here due to the anthem, the impact of the White House burning /current name, making Jackson a household name, and backstabbing the native Americans. People got mad back in 2014 when the British consulate made a joke about burning the white house with sparkler candles. Some people can't take a joke...or a model run. But the war is forgotten in the UK. That said, I'm rooting for Team Europe (not UK Met) to conquer us. Team Euro!!! -

Highest honours to you. Grab the toque and do a snow dance, even if you're in a parkade at the outlets. If not we'll be sore-ry with torching. -

Everyone on this board has to start spelling in Canadian English this morning to encourage the GEM. -

Our power went out at 4:30 across town but came back on about five minutes later. However it woke my son and I up and I can't go back to sleep. Spouse at the hospital said they went out briefly too. -

If this verifies, and I'm doubtful since the GFS took this away from me, my comment about being satisfied with three inches for my SE WA location would sadly make one of the few winners. Again, I am doubtful because I'm being warm nosed on Mon and Tue. -

I started from page 217 when there were 238 pages and after several minutes, we're still at 238 and I'm at 229 so haven't seen the Euro yet. Must have been bad :(.
