  4. Maybe we will get some normal winter weather for a change this week. I might even need to pull out some rain gear or a sweatshirt. i really hope we don't set a record or near record for drought this winter.
  5. It was a nice day today with temperatures surpassing the 70 degree mark. I hope that we will see some rain soon as I hate having to irrigate the garden in what should be one of the wettest months of the year.
  6. I picked up around 2" in Santa Barbara. Some areas where the mudslides occurred picked up in excess of .5" in about 5 minutes. That is a lot of rain in such a short period of time especially considering this is the first rain of more than a quarter of an inch this season.
  7. The air quality is bad in Santa Barbara. I can't remember seeing ash fall in December before or being cold while this is occurring. Hopefully the winds will remain calm.
  8. Morning low was 32 this morning with quite a bit of smoke from the Thomas Fire this afternoon. I really hope we get some rain soon. This is way to late in the season be getting massive fires.

  18. The Santa Barbara area did quite well. I picked up around 6.05" (I had to empty my rain gauge so it would not overflow). This storm drenched the Cachuma watershed and put significant runoff into Cachuma. As of 8 am on 2/17/2017 Cachuma was at 18.2% of capacity and today 2/18/2017 at 8 am it was at 32.5%. The 24 hour rise is 27689 acre feet, nearly double from the lakes low last Fall.

  22. It was an interesting morning today. I got awakened to a tornado warning for Santa Barbara county on my phone this morning. Although I was not near the warning area there was a brief period with heavy pea size hail around 6:45 am. There was still some hail persisting, unmelted in one of my plants located in a shaded area, this afternoon around 4:30 pm. January rainfall total around 9" and Season total at 14". There is finally some runoff into the Gibraltar and Cachuma reservoirs in Santa Barbara county.
  23. So far we have picked up just over 1.7" with the current storm. The previous storm produced 2.7" and out monthly total is now over 8". The soil seems to be finally getting saturated in the garden as even a light rain is causing some ponding.
