  1. Looking forward to the warm up next week., 40s and maybe near 50F or so. Any snow we get today will be history for a lot of folks.
  2. I will give this winter till maybe mid March and then, ready for spring. Sometimes March can produce bigger snows than what you think. After that, I will be thinking Greece...AHHH....and saying to myself, it it July yet.??!!
  3. Considering it has not really snowed there for an incredible amount of time, I would call this "Major." We are used to getting feet of snow in real Nor'easters, but that has not been the case, lately, unfortunately. Models have been trended even further south (benchmark 40/70), which is an ideal track for NYC and all 5 boroughs for real heavy snow. They are expecting snowfall rates of 1 to 2inches an hour. The highest I have seen was 3 to 4inches per hour rates during the famous blizzard of 96. Yeah, your right. We are definitely not Charlotte, NC.
  4. Finally NYC will get a major snowstorm this winter.......here we go: Winter Storm Warning URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service New York NY 400 PM EST Mon Feb 12 2024 NJZ006-106>108-NYZ072>075-176-178-179-130500- /O.UPG.KOKX.WS.A.0003.240213T0900Z-240213T2300Z/ /O.EXB.KOKX.WS.W.0002.240213T0900Z-240213T2300Z/ Hudson-Eastern Essex-Western Union-Eastern Union- New York (Manhattan)-Bronx-Richmond (Staten Island)- Kings (Brooklyn)-Northern Queens-Southern Queens-Southern Nassau- 400 PM EST Mon Feb 12 2024 ...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 6 PM EST TUESDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions.
  5. Its beautiful outside. I even heard bird chirping. Unreal! There is a storm to watch late next week, but that looks to be a rain to snow scenario w/ possible accumulations. It stays cold thereafter, but near average temps or slightly below. Note: As I said back in late Autumn, I'll be a happy camper if my snowfall this winter gets close to average, but w/ this strong nino, it will be tough. Good news is that this nino will be weakening in spring. Nina is up next, or will it be nada. If that is the case, forecasting next winter will be very tough. Rather have a nina for sure.
  6. There was a slight chance for a snowstorm in S MI early next week, but the phase does not happen. Still needs to be watched.
  7. This mild, if not warm air feels amazing. Ya really dont wanna be inside at all. Temps in the 60's yesterday and more of the same today. Back to near seasonable temps next week, but no big storms as for right now.
  8. No sunshine yet. Still cloudy and quite averaged w temps in the low 30s. Averaged high this time of the year is 33F. Quick question to anyone that knows this answer to my question: So, typically, if Ground Hog sees its shadow, its 6 more weeks of winter, but how many weeks of winter is left if it does not see its shadow. I.e., if that is the case, what date could be considered an early spring.
  9. Pattern change coming for the 2nd part of February as it will turn much colder and snowier for some parts of the country. The EC stands a good chance as well. February tends to be their snowiest month of the winter season. Right now, March looks quite cold and potentially snowy, which could last through the end of the month, b4 winter says good bye.
  10. Yes, I am mostly looking forward towards the sunshine this weekend as well. Tbh, I could use a break from the cold and snow. January was indeed a very active month in terms of cold and snow. Averaged AN in snowfall and not sure how that happened during a strong nino, but definitely not complaining on that part.
  11. Big warm-up coming next week. My area could potentially hit 50F. Still some large snow piles around. Great thing is that sunshine will be returning by tomorrow (ahhhh, some Vitamin D). Temps remain AB until further notice.
  12. Hopefully, the second half of February can bring in some arctic air again and a few good storms.
  13. I think for your area, there was not enough lifting, which reduced the snowfall considerably.
  14. Here in S MI, that snow came in w a vengeance. It was a moderate to heavy, wet snowfall. Beautiful scenery. Best part was looking at the radar this morning at that wall of snow pushing through. Great "Clipper."
  15. That is what I said also. They did not want to look bad, so they decided to leave it w/o a headline. Meanwhile, their forecast was still wrong. They were calling for less snow, meanwhile we got more., if not, quite a bit more.
  16. Definitely an overachiever. Snowfall was coming down heavy at times and there was some good, strong lifting going on, which helped a lot. Also, it started snowing earlier than expected. This was an all snow event w amounts ranging from 3-6" area wide . Veryyyy pleased. My snow piles are out looking good again. Too bad, no bitter cold air coming. Not complaining though, considering, this has been a very active January along w/ above normal snowfall.
  17. January nino continues!!! CAUTIOUS TRAVEL IS ADVISED FOR SNOW-COVERED ROADWAYS AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE... WEATHER... * A burst of snow will continue to impact southeast Michigan through the remainder of the morning commute. * Snowfall rates approaching an inch per hour have been observed with snowfall reports of 2 to locally 3 inches. * Additional snow accumulations north of I-96 around an inch. South of I-96 additional accumulations up to 2 inches. * South winds around 10 mph with gusts to 15 mph. * Air temperature will remain steady around 32 degrees. IMPACTS... * Accumulating snow will lead to slippery roads particularly on bridges, exit ramps and overpasses. * Visibility reductions to less than one mile. There may be rapid fluctuations in visibility.
  18. Great game last nite, even though, the Lions did not make it to the superbowl. A score being 24/7 at the beginning , I would have bet that the Lions had this, but what a comeback from the 49ers...dang. Tough team, but I hear the Chiefs are even tougher. Not to worry Lions, there is always next year.. Great game though.
  19. Yes sir....looks like an impressive clipper.
  20. BN for February tempwise to begin the month, but dry, unless a storm develops outta nowhere, (2 days at 40F or slightly higher next week, then temps fall as a strong Canadian high builds in from Canada). Temps do remain BN if not way BN as we get deeper in the month. Hopefully, this month can get me to at least near average snowfall by the time we call it a wrap and we welcome spring. Even March can help provide the goods, but by mid March (or sometimes even April, which can do the trick), the mode is pretty much gone by then, until next October again and into November.
  21. Well, Detroit picked up 0.8" of slushy snow this morning making it a total of 14.6" of snowfall so far this month. Maybe we can add a bit more on Tuesday b4 we close out the month. Overall, not too shabby during a nino winter.
  22. WOW! That sounds like a wild drive being in a blizzard.
  23. @TomNot sure if I skipped any vid's or pics of yours, but did you happened to check out the mountains by ya area. They must have feet of snow up there.
  24. It is balmy out there. A lot of snow is melting, that's for sure, but it also feels good being outside and not freezing your a** off. This January thaw is very much welcomed by me. Temps are in the upper 30s to near 40F attm under hvy mist. Btw: being a nino winter, January was very active in terms of snowfall and very cold temps. Averaging above normal snowfall for the month.
  25. Looks like another couple of inches for mby coming up tomorrow nite and into Tuesday, b4 some ice starts mixes in. I wonder how how long that warm air can be delayed b4 reaching the northern burbs of Detroit. Also, not a fan of ice. Hopefully, it can stay all snow after getting a couple of inches of snow and end as a little freezing drizzle or sleet and call it a day.
