  1. Never got above 25 at Bachelor today. It was a very nice day of skiing, but the two tree well deaths yesterday added a bit of sorrow and anxiety. With the backside opening tomorrow, there’s about 1500 acres of a lot of untouched new deep snow. I hope the snow has been able to settle since yesterday.
  2. Well that settles it, TWC was calling for 109! Upper airmasses don't matter, dry soils and TWC determine all time record highs.
  3. It can be very dangerous. I've had more close calls than I should probably be comfortable with. I was on a 42 degree slope 2 minutes before a small avalanche took out the entire run back in 2006. I've had my ski bash my helmet in, somehow avoided major concussions two other times when I fell on my head going 50-55mph, but I love what I do. However, I've never had a desire to do what the pros do. They destroy their bodies and miss so much time on the slopes recovering.
  4. Tragic. A 24 year old snowboarder from Bend died in a tree well on Mt. Bachelor today. I had skied the same area the two hours before that and noticed how unstable it was. Not for avalanches, but for snow immersion. I had such a great day today, but this has really shaken me.
  5. For some reason this reminded me of how I've noticed Bend Airport's weather station hasn't been reporting precip correctly for awhile. We've had about 7" of snow this week with only .16" reported...and no our snow ratio hasn't been over 30:1. Duh.
  6. Jeez. I definitely don't like most of his posts, but this is pretty brutal and unnecessary.
  7. I mainly frequent 3. This one probably has the most advanced knowledge overall, my favorite is drama free and regionally focused, and the other is from CA that is reliable for snow forecasts. The funny thing about that one is that it used to be attached to Mammoth Mountain's website, but they didn't want the drama attached to their site so they disconnected it and pretty much old members are the only ones able to find the URL because it's been changed several times.
  8. I didn't notice before, but this weeks snow has helped me pass 10' of snow since I've lived in Bend. I never had any snow where I lived the first 18 years of my life, then about 2.5' during my 6 years in Eugene, and now 10' in my 3 years in Bend.
  9. Yet the Euro was way off for the Sunday night storm and the GFS nailed it for our area.
  10. Summit and Northwest express opened this morning to the best powder since last March! What an amazing morning. Got 4 runs of light fluffy pow before it got tracked out.
  11. It’s been above average for a small portion of NW WA so we need to root for ridging and dry weather.
  12. So that much of the region has had a drier month and you’re still on here pining for dry weather? Yea I know, you post snow maps and hope people get snow, you always find a way to justify yourself despite many people expressing their annyonance.
  13. Agreed. Big miss by the Euro. Showed 4-6” and I only got an inch or so. GFS won this round.
  14. Going to be a miss for the Euro. Showed 4-6” and we’ll end up closer to the GFS’s 2”.
  15. Gfs says 3”, Euro says 6” tomorrow. Let’s see who wins.
  16. Looks like there's a chance for 3-4 more inches tomorrow afternoon/night here. I could be looking at my 4th WWA of the week tomorrow.
  17. Moderate snowfall throughout a lot of the morning here. Looks like about 4" on top of the 2" left from the previous snow. Nice little snowpack developing which is really nice to see. Blizzard conditions up on Bachelor have just the beginner lifts running.
  18. Thanks! Didn't know they had free snow maps. Bookmarked.
  19. Anyone have a Euro snow map for the 5 and 10 day period? Please and thanks.
  20. Snow has tapered off to flurries due to upslope flow. Sun is breaking out elsewhere around the region. Looks like we have around 2.5" on top of the 1-1.5" from a couple days ago. Nice to have a good coating of snow on everything.
  21. Dumping right now in Bend. Northerly upslope flow could keep the snow going for a couple hours.
  22. I mean, he's coming back from Hawaii, the driest part, we're in a cold and snowy stretch finally, and he's telling us about how he's happy that it'll be drier and warmer.
