  1. 63F here for our first 60F of the spring. Gonna snow again by Saturday so going to enjoy it while it last.
  2. comparison time. Same date last year and this year.
  3. Lol I say only because the models and the Nws were talking about a top 5 all time snow storm and possibly breaking the 24 hour record at the snow lab on Donner summit. Reality was like 50% of the forecast. My total was 31" which is no big deal over 3 days. I had 6 different days last winter that dropped more snow than any day during this storm. So even with a good accumulation it was a bit of a bust.
  4. Only 31" on this side of the lake. North shore was around 60"
  5. Yeah the first half of the storm was way warmer than forecast and a total bust.
  6. Winds last night were terrifying but we survived. My truck was clear at midnight so this is 9 hours worth. still snowing hard with hopefully another foot or more today. Storm total around 28" right now.
  7. Power came back on. Winds are currently the strongest I have ever experienced in my life. I am guessing gust near 100mph currently. Everyone is group texting each other with Wtf is going on with the winds. My house is whistling like you hear in the old timey movies. Alpine Meadows hit 167mph already. This is legit scary
  8. 6300' this site is ok and truckee airport has a good cam as well. https://tahoeweathercam.com/
  9. Got everything gassed up and read to go. Hoping the power stays on for this storm. Saturday will be one of the rare days you can snowmobile on the public streets to get around. Took my friends sled to my buddy's bar in Dec 2022 and then shredded all the meadows back to my house with a few other people. Passing cars stuck on highway 50 was fun
  10. The newest Euro is an eye opener for my area. It has 70" for the middle of the lake which is normally the driest part. 74" for the beach by my house. Easily the biggest single storm total I have ever seen the model throw out
  11. They are very rare for the Sierra. Maybe only the 3rd or 4th one in the last 25 years up here. We don't get ground blizzards generally because of our wet snow.
  12. The very rare blizzard warning has gone out for us.
  13. Nws Reno afternoon discussion had this in it. Lower elevations in the Tahoe Basin including Tahoe City, Incline Village, South Lake Tahoe have 75-85% chances of over 3 feet of snow during this period!
  14. Nice the NBM model which is usually pretty conservative is showing 55" for my area. I hope everything holds together for another 2 days of model runs.
  15. If you want to Blizzard chase I80 from Blue canyon up to Donner summit looks like the place to be Thursday- Saturday. From the Nws Sacramento: For reference, latest probabilities of exceeding 60" of snowfall are in the 80 to 100% range above 5000 feet. This will result in near to impossible travel conditions from late week into the weekend.
  16. 18z Gfs was something. 278" in the next 15 days near Kirkwood. lol
  17. Currently at 60% of normal precip and 25% snowfall. Somehow South lake Tahoe is the driest city in Califronia PON so far. But the Gfs is showing 100" of snow here in the next 10 days so maybe we will catch up. Current snowpack pic
  18. Oh boy Nws Reno throwing out the heat for us later this week. Potentially our first real storm of the winter. The big ticket item for next week will be with an expansive and cold upper level trough developing off the PacNW after mid-week. Medium range ensemble guidance is showing an impressive signal for 48hr+ duration of very heavy snowfall in the Sierra. While the pattern is still not completely in focus over a week away, a very close eye needs to be kept on this potentially major storm as snowfall probabilities are already exceeding 80% for multiple feet of snow for all elevations in the Sierra during a period from around Thursday through all of next weekend. If the current scenario takes hold, this could be largest snow event of the season in the Sierra.
  19. I hope Dewey makes it through the Vegas super storm! My flight has been delayed 4 times already lol
  20. I leave in a couple hours but the rain has been nice
  21. I am in Vegas today and it looks like the Central Valley has one of the best setups on record for tornadoes this afternoon. Lots of chasers have arrived according to X post. Parameters are very similar to the Midwest/plains before an outbreak. If I was home I would be tempted to drive down the hill to check it out. Hopefully some good footage is captured.
  22. It was our coldest March ever breaking the 1952 record by 1.2F. Pretty remarkable
  23. Right there with you. Currently at 31" and still need about 150" more for average. We last had a 100" March in 2018 so there is still hope for a catch up Tahoe basin snowpack reading just came in at 60% of normal up high at the measuring spots today. Sounds like snowpack is terrible from Bc all the way down till you hit Vegas. Vegas to the grand canyon is doing great.
