  1. It doesn't happen every time, but historically it's happened most of the time.
  2. Yeah, it does appear something funky was going on early that year at that station. Although it also does appear there was a legit record-breaking warm air mass later in January 1920 in the region.
  3. I feel insulted. iFred!! iFRED!!!! I don't think the last sentence applies to everyone...
  4. Guess it depends on if you're talking about when the record was set or just tied.
  5. Those weeklies tend to go with persistence a lot, I've noticed. Doesn't mean that won't verify, but something to keep in mind. At one point they were looking pretty nice for January...didn't turn out great.
  6. Regardless of craptitude, at least Nov 2014 managed a more impressive cold air mass than anything seen in 1939-40. Despite reoccurring blow torches both winters.
  7. Yup. But at least PDX managed to decouple and record a decent low temp in 2014. That's all I was saying.
  8. Uh huh. 21 vs 27. Not sure why he threw itty bitty of snow in there.
  9. One record that really jumps out at me is the 72 Monroe, WA recorded in January 1935. Any reason to think that's not legit? It's really head and shoulders above most other January records in the region.
  10. Yeah, but low of only 27. PDX at least managed to hit 21 in late December.
  11. One can wonder too much. I've been pointing out the impressive nature of this air mass, from a historical perspective. That post was just me noticing how Medford was oddly not getting the same oomph from the air mass as everywhere else from Redding to Portland.
  12. Medford seems to be in some sort of inversion. Sunny, but only 56. Not gonna come anywhere near their monthly record of 71 from 1961.
  13. Looks like Redding airport has set their January record. Of course, their period of record only goes back to 1986. The previous, long term Redding station has a January record of 87 from 1920.
  14. True. I usually just go with the original, as the WRCC does.
  15. That winter didn't have an air mass like we saw in November, though. Or even one like late December, I don't believe.
  16. EUG could challenge their January record of 67 from 1975. SLE's record of 68 from 1896 is probably out of reach. The pre-airport Eugene station hit 69 in 1914. Looks like about 68-69 has been the historical max for most long terms stations in the region.
  17. It's been below average in the mountains, but not terrible. Here along the Front Range, about the same. I'm at about 19" on the season, about 65% of normal for this point.
  18. OLM, the greatest station known to man, had a low of 50 this morning. Not often you see that in January...especially when it's not a Pineapple Express.
  19. I'm just being an a**, but sunny and 60 on a June afternoon would be pretty chilly.
  20. DISCLAIMER: This post is not about the PNW. Yeah, looks like Fairbanks is headed below -40. That's different.
