February 2026 Observations & Discussions
Yesterday was a warm day with a high of 54 the day started out with a trace of snow on the ground but that is now long gone and there are just snow piles with some big parking lot snow piles it will take a while for the parking lot piles to go. It was mild for the overnight but a cold front has now passed and the temperature has fallen down to 30 here in my yard. There is now a better chance of some snow tonight and there could be a couple of inches of snow to end February and welcome March. The expect pattern change is still on tap but there will be a little reminder that winter is still around for a few more days. On February 28th 2012, The first confirmed February tornado in Nebraska state history struck Lincoln and Logan Counties shortly after 4PM. The EF-0 tornado was on the ground intermittently for up to six minutes and traveled 3 miles before dissipating in southwest Logan County. The path of the tornado was over open rangeland and cropland where limited damage occurred. Patches of snow were still on the ground at the time. (NWS North Platte) -
