  1. We never got above 43* and Grim. No rain in sight. Forecast is for 71* Monday....but partly cloudy. Strange week.

  4. A rare 7.7 earthquake struck between Jamaica and Cuba on Jan. 28th. The quake was felt in southern Florida and buildings in Miami swayed terrifying residents. A 7.6 hit Eastern Turkey last week with an enormous amount of damage to buildings. Many people were trapped in the rubble and numerous deaths reported. The GSM expectation of increased quakes seems to be in play as the area near Cuba has been shaking and there has been and marked increase in Volcanic activity.
  5. The 7.7 hit 77 miles NNW of Jamaica and was felt in Miami as well as throughout southern Fla. Buildings swayed in Miami frightening residents and many complained of feeling nauseous fron the swaying. The area around the Dominican Republicc has also been experiencing quakes. Roads were reported cracking in the Caymans. Seems there may be something to this Grand Solar Minimum stuff!
  6. We got some nice rain last night, maybe a return this afternoon late. Our week will be in the 50's and low 60's. Lows high 30's. Sunday will see 71 freakin' degrees. I know it's winter somewhere, but here, it's more like spring. Flowers blooming and some tree buds swelling. I mean, it would be nice to have a little winter, yes?
  7. We've had a lot of fog this winter. This morning is no exception. 48*. Heavy fog. High of 51*.
  8. Is it just me, or is the new type size too small? What was wrong with what we had. Now I have to grab my glasses, especially on some of the graphs. Any way to individually enlarge the type, or do I get a seeing eye dog??
  9. A massive earthquake of magnitude 6.7 shocks eastern Turkey's Elazığ province. Numerous buildings have collapsed or sustained serious damage following the quake. Death toll is in the 40's and may grow.
  10. The Space Force logo looks suspiciously like Star Fleet Command. So, is this an accident or intentional?
  11. High today of 55*. Low tonight 38*. Clear Next 2 days highs ~62* clear
  12. Dense fog this morning. 46*. Low 37* Yesterday with the wind chill and light rain was very cold to be out in.
  13. Mid 40’. Slow drizzle rain through till morning. Foggy. Well, at least we’re getting rain.
  14. Missing that big snow storm??? Here a link to New Foundland's bliz'. Thought you might enjoy this. Officially 30" of snow. https://www.iceagenow.info/newfoundland-24-hr-time-lapse-video-of-blizzard/#more-30627 They've requested military assistance to clear roads. St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen said he said he is about 178 cm tall (5-foot-8), and “the snow in front of my front step is over my head. I can’t see either one of my cars in the driveway.” Cold morning in No. Tx. 32*. Rain on the way.
  15. As if it isn't horrible enough for Australia, hailstorms have been followed up by massive dust storms. Authorities now fear animal deaths are approaching 1 billion as rescuers try to save as many as possible from predators. Water and food are very scarce for both prey and predator.
  16. Taal has been quite active since 2019, with a growing list of gas emissions, quakes, and minor eruptions. This latest eruption steps into new territory and vucanologists are are convinced now that magma is being pumped into the magma chamber from the depths. Hundreds of earthquakes have continued. Taal itself is a massive caldera tens of miles across (see above) with a volcanic cone in the lake. In 1965, Taal produced a VEI 4 eruption that covered tens of square miles with up to 10 inches (25 centimeters) of ash and killed hundreds of people. That eruption was from the central island in Lake Taal and was phreatomagmatic -- an eruption driven by mixing water and magma. Adding water can enhance the explosivity of an eruption, so more ash is produced. https://www.discovermagazine.com/planet-earth/new-eruption-from-one-of-the-most-dangerous-volcanoes-in-the-philippines
  17. No. Texas will be in the 50's for the next week. Dry, low humidity. Sounds great. We have a humidity of 23% today and 51*. Clear. Really nice day.
  18. Welcome! Adaminaby Angler. I went to you Country about 25 yrs ago. Really enjoyed my stay. Wonderful people and country. I'm so very saddened to read of the fires that are wrecking your country and animals. I'd be interested in your perspective and insights. Welcome, we're really not so bad, and get along well despite differences of opinions in science.
  19. Oh I hope you're wrong. La Ninas are so hard on us in the south. I'll take Neutral over a Nina.
  20. North Tx is currently dealing with flooding and high water warnings on streets. We were saturated by yesterday evening and it has been lightly raining all day and will until about 5 am. One road around the lake near me was closed yesterday. A great deal of runoff going into that lake and I'm sure the Corps of Engineers have opened the floodgates. High 40's tonight and with the wind and rain it feels a lot colder. 50's tomorrow with sun, I hope.
  21. This is so amazing. ___________________ Scientists analysing a meteorite have discovered the oldest material known to exist on Earth. They found dust grains within the space rock - which fell to Earth in the 1960s - that are as much as 7.5 billion years old. The oldest of the dust grains were formed in stars that roared to life long before our Solar System was born. https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-51099609
  22. I love it when you talk tech! How's it going? PS - Finished the series... 3 books - 400,000 words. But info keeps flowing in. What d'ya goona do?. May have a 4th, but taking a break and working on a separate novel. Is this crazy or what?.
  23. Still in the 40's-50's. Still light rain. We need it and another round in a week. Gotta love winter.
  24. Woke to loud claps to thunder this morning accompanied with heavy rain. Still raining for awhile. Flash flooding complicated rush hour that saw 2 dozen wrecks. We're at 49* and have hit the high for the day. This and next week will remain in the high 40's- low 50's. Rain again tonight.
