  1. I've notice when solar activity is low then cold air seems to go further south. When we had our Feb snowstorm the sun was active for months and then quieted down considerably just before the snows came then in the middle of it the solar activity picked back up and in came the westerlies. The sun isn't the only factor to look at but it does make mild weather more likely either thru riding if ocean conditions allow it or screaming westerlies depending on where ridges and lows set up. The sun can't control placement but it does amplify strength of ridges and troughs.
  2. I hope Martial Law isn't going to be declared in California this summer and there will be water fights as a lot of people and the corrupt government starts being stupid about it all.
  3. My Uncle used to live in Leavenworth in the 70s before moving to Port Townsend because of work issues in the mid 80s and now he's having work issues again the last year! It's amazing during heavy snow they don't even slow down! Do they all ski to work like in Norway? His worked slowed down when the economy crashed but he kept plugging thru and now has no job at all but his wife still works so are still able to pay the bills for now. Dad went to see him sometime in the early 80s before I was even thought of and drove thru a blinding snowstorm and a strange miracle happened while he was driving and spoke to some truckers about it who were stranded at a truck stop which takes too long to get into here.
  4. How many snow days in a winter have you had in the mountains or should I say Highlands of Maryland? The * Appalachian Mountains* actually reminds me more of the Scottish Highlands as they aren't really that steep compared to the West Coast ones. You have a lot of steep hills and dips which looks dangerous when it snows but otherwise no real mountains sticking up.
  5. It would be nice if it wasn't an attachment so non members who are studying the weather can view the chart. When I wasn't a member before I signed up I was really ticked off that you couldn't view simple files. By the way yesterday around 3:00pm just when the next batch of rain hit I emptied my gauge and it showed 1.20 from the previous storm! What a wet one! Then from 3 to 5 steady rain unlike the Oregon Mist we usually get that often barely registers. The kind of steady rain we had is what I call a California Soaker which is a typical rainstorm anywhere in California when a storm blows thru.
  6. Which areas do schools close for bad weather in the mountain states like Eastern Washingtno/Idaho/Wymoming.etc? I know that Utah it will take a rare 2 footer which has to fall in the morning hours before they will even consider closing or they will laugh you out of the state just for even suggesting it! What about Colorado? I have heard that Colorado Springs School District is not as tough as Denver but then again CS does not get very much snow most winters. Any other areas?
  7. Salt Lake City or one of the higher neighborhoods around it that's off the valley floor? They get cooler lows except during a heatwave when they go into the 70s at night and often in the winter creep into the 50s (daytime)without the constant drizzle we all moan about in between snow events so you will have a week of 50s and in extreme cases even 60s before the next snow event comes in! The snowfall is not as often as you would think and they are PROS at keeping everything plowed. They never shut things down in Utah for snow unless a rare 2 footer happen at once and that has to be falling in the morning hours or otherwise business as usual!!!. Just for suggesting things to close and they will laugh you out of the state!!
  8. 60s and muggy for this time of the year. Hope this isn't going to be like last summer where here and other spots south of Portland were sticky from late July onwards. August was brutal with constant dewpoints at or above 60F which normal dew points are low 50s to upper 40s. It finally did a sneak attack in late August striking Portland and they felt what we felt a good chunk of that summer. Not only that but last summer Salem had more then twice the amount of 90F days then usual while Portland was quite cool so nobody believed those who said it was hotter down here until Portland got in on the humid spell then they all acted shocked and whined like a bunch of hypocrites about it The worst of it down here was during the fires from Southern Oregon in which the afternoons and evenings was smoke filled so you couldn't even open the windows without you're eyes being bothered. Thank goodness for eye drops! The mornings HOWEVER most of the summer were unusually pleasant until about 11am and then the humidity crept in usually with high clouds blocking the sun out at times but like I just said the mornings were like a piece of heaven on earth. I actually became a morning person because of it! The NWS almost everyday in August and part of September was off by 5-10 degrees on the forecast by being too *cool*. They wouldsay the high would be only 83F if we are lucky but by afternoon it would be 93F and sticky making them look bad. September was just as bad including the failed forecasts until the awesome thunderstorms! South of Salem got hit the hardest from the outbreak from storm spotter reports I've read. Now it's in the 60s and partly sunny. I am not sure which part but part of it is sunny!. The internet and landline phone both went down just an hour ago for no reason at all and just came back on a few minutes ago. Lately we have been having weird internet and phone outages but our company is pretty good at getting it back on quick.
  9. I agree. I am looking forward to lots of stray albinos wandering into our skies.
  10. You're actually right about that and I give you credit for trying to figure it out. There ARE secret societies out there that are doing really insane sick stuff (Skulls and Bones) (The Muslim Brotherhood) (Zionists).etc and scientists are learning that our thoughts if we have a powerful enough will can actually create energies that are more *spiritual* that later manifest in the most appropriate way. If you research you will find thru various tests such as the *rice experiment* and the *water* test http://themindunleashed.org/2014/01/scientific-proof-thoughts-intentions-can-alter-physical-world-around-us.html Look at the pictures of the *Rice test*. Which jar do you prefer? I wouldn't rule out sick societies aiming for weather control who's goal if that is indeed true would be to ruin American crops so they will try to *steer* storms into the Midwest and Central USA where the corn belt is grown and to do that you need the high pressure ridges in the right positions long term. They don't give a crap about our weather as we are like in nowhere's land. The depressing weather we are having is just a side effect of a larger plan to control the food wherever it's being grown. It will likely effect our snowpacks but they aren't thinking about that when doing these dry run experiments. There are a lot of military documents that the USA and especially China want to own the weather by 2025 thru the Star Wars weapons program that had a kick start in the mid to late 80s though I think they already own it and those documents are old. It will be a lot sooner then 2025 since technology went forward in leaps and bounds since the time those declassified military documents have been written. The first Bush signed the NAFTA act to started the first stage of our rights being eroded but in the end it's all up to us to decide to let the weather effect us or we see thru the BS and train our sub conscience to be positive so we won't sabotage our efforts. You can think positive thoughts all you want but if you have been trained you're sub conscience to be negative we will continue to attract that crap.
  11. When was the last time that SLE and EUG ended with below average night minimums? It seems the last decade it's been very hard to get cold clear air masses any more and usually warm fronts come and erode them pretty quickly when one does attempt to set up shop.
  12. Torch next winter? This winter was pretty much a torch at least in the mountains and foothills. All but two weeks were unusually warm and when i twas cold it was too dry for frost? I hope we do have one more heavy frost spell at least before spring and summer is here for good!Q Note I said frost. Not a deep freeze. I just want it to go a touch below 32F one more time.
  13. This thread is dead! *Insert Axe smiley here* I miss the old emoticons.
  14. They didn't but whoever runs the Portland AFD likely wishes it was privatized and goes as far as he can to be creative and innovative. I didn't know the Seattle AFD sucked so much but considering the demographics there I am not surprised one bit.
  15. Not to mention they can vote themselves in thru lobbying if they have to and give themselves pay raises while cutting funds for the rest of the *lower* staff.
  16. I think the PV is honoring the increased border restrictions. No passports? no go!
  17. Has the Empire State Building and Twin Towers EVER had a snow day where they either release workers early or closed completely the next day due to heavy snow falling at the wrong timing? I know from researching the NYC public school systems often make dumb choices when conditions are questionable at best where as private schools and suburbs districts close much more easily and often spill into summer during the severest winters. Only a very few times have the NYC Public Schools ever closed in which it was whiteout conditions and the plows couldn't keep up.
  18. It's been very odd period when we have cold spells as it seems snow bans are in narrow localized areas rather then widespread patterns where everybody gets a bit of something. I wouldn't even call the snowstorms this year as *widespread* due to certain people getting favored and others getting totally shafted but whoever got it really scored!.
  19. Bah! When it snows like that why stop at life? Just get the snowmobiles out and dogsleds! The more the merrier!
  20. I thought you could only get to Cuba if you hijacked an airplane and forced it to land there and make some crazy demands.
  21. It's in the 50s down here in Oregon and mostly clear skies! Cmon down and soak it up!
  22. Have you had any snow days this winter with all this snow?
  23. I'm curious too if there is going to be any seepage into Oregon or if it will just *hang* in Washington. I hope the Oregon weather dome isn't repaired.
