  1. Here in St. Joseph, MO, we only have about 1.5"-2" of new snow. It's still coming down, and it would make for great sledding since it's falling on top of the 3-4 inches remaining from Mon/Tues... if it wasn't so dang cold. We're missing out on the big stuff a few miles north, but it's enough that with the roads wet from snow melt, and our temps already reaching their max over night (currently at 11°), the whole area, all the way down through KC, MO (where I work) are shut down.
  2. Let's bring this baby south!! Already 3 big (for me) snows in 2 weeks for this southern boy has been like a life-long dream come true!
  3. This definitely over-delivered in St. Joseph, MO! The early morning forecast yesterday called for a trace to 2 inches. I ended up shoveling about 3.5 inches off my driveway this morning. A lot of sleet fell through the afternoon, into early evening, before turning to snow at about 6:00. And when the snow came down, it fell FAST! Just north of here, though towards Iowa, I believe they got a lot more than us. I'm a happy camper!
  4. We have some GREAT spots here! The town is built on a series of hills/bluffs along the Missouri river, so there's no shortage of sledding destinations!
  5. I've never seen it explained that way. Can't wait for this to ramp up and get rolling! Looks like no matter how it ends up, my area should at least end up with something. I'm expecting anywhere between 2 to 10 inches.
  6. It looked (and still looks) great! It's overcast today, so I'm hoping much of the snow will stick around until the next round this weekend.
  7. Greetings KCSmokey! I'm a Southern, bayou-raised kid (New Orleans), recently relocated to St. Joe, MO. And I also say, "Bring it on!"
  8. In St. Joseph, MO, we ended up with 5.5 to 6 inches. The roads got cleared quickly, and great fun was had by all! Lots of great sledding! Here's to hoping some snow is till on the ground this weekend, and the next event hits even harder!
  9. And we have snow!! Local weather had been calling for snow not beginning until the evening all week. So it looks like we're gonna be in for the long haul! Bring it on!
  10. The drizzle just began here in St. Joseph, MO. And the temp has dropped fairly quickly over the last 2 hours. Wunderground tells me it's 38 degrees, and feels like 32. I've told my boss, first snowflake I see, I'm leaving for the day. All my coworkers know I'm a snow-nerd from the south.
  11. NWS Discussion for Kansas City Winter Weather Advisory for KC/Central MO
  12. I'm really excited about the potential for this storm, but trying to not get my hopes up as I'm in St. Joseph, MO, right at the western edge of where all the good stuff seems forecast to begin. We'll see. I'd love to be able to spend a snowy weekend watching the Chiefs with the in-laws, then cheering on my Saints on Sunday! Who Dat!
  13. Got a good 1.5-2 inches last night in St. Joseph, MO. Took the kids out after dark for a walk while it was still pretty and footprint free. Schools cancelled this morning due to cold and the nasty flu epidemic, but travel to work was nothing special.
  14. 4:26 PM, Snow just began falling in St Joseph, MO. only about 3 hours late. It's falling pretty heavy too... I guess it knows it has a lot of time to make up for.
  15. Schools in St. Joseph, MO let out 2 hours early today. Snow was supposed to begin at 11 ish, with up to 3 inches accumulating throughout the evening. It's now 3:00, my son is home, and would just be getting ready to be dismissed otherwise. Radar makes it look as though snow is all around, but we haven't seen a single flake touch the ground!
  16. The kids and I had some fun in our brief snow shower last night! It was a brief (only about 20 minutes) but vigorous snow, leaving behind a trace on the grass and cars till morning. Here's a shot of my little jedi practicing for next Thursday!
  17. And it's headed down our way!! Wunderground is showing 44% chance of snow beginning at 5 PM for St. Joseph, MO! Glad I get off at 3:30 so I can play outside!
  18. Welp, I experienced my first ever October/Halloween snow yesterday! the closest Wunderground station reported only a trace, but it fell for about 2 hours longer than forecast. My kids were thrilled! My 3 year old daughter had never experienced snow at all, and was a bit perturbed at first since it wouldn't stop hitting her face and getting in the car when she was getting buckled in. So, she told that snow a thing or two, like only a 3 year old can. Later, she became fascinated! What a great experience! Looking forward to what November will bring!
  19. Even down "south," here in Northern, MO, we're looking at a chance of some flurries/sleet just in time for Trick-Or-Treating!
  20. 36 degrees and overcast in St. Joe, MO. I started to type this post about 2 hours ago, and was going to say something about how I was pretty sure this was the coldest I'd ever experienced in October. And while, I don't keep daily temperature records, I realized there are other sources who do. So I went out to Weather Underground to see what they had to say. I decided to record the Monthly Minimum Low and Monthly Minimum High temps for each year for the location closest to where I lived that year. It turns out, I HAVE experienced October cold like this before! Actually, COLDER! I lived in Montgomery, AL in 1993 (the same year I experienced my first snow storm in March), and apparently the Minimum Low for the month was 30 F and the Minimum High for the month was only 42! It seems like lows in the 30s weren't uncommon for Montgomery back in the late 80s. Today is forecast to get up to about 44, and the temp tonight should drop to the upper 20s, so I just went with the lowest points so far today. Here's a nice graph I made.
  21. That's what makes it so hard to get kids ready for school in the mornings! "Ok kids, it's 28 degrees outside, let's put on all 14 layers of clothes since it'll probably be 82 by the time you get home from school! I expect at least 5 of these layers to make it home!" Days like that make me miss the south. You wake up in October, and you know it's probably going to be 75 degrees. It'll climb into the 80's. You'll probably sweat. You won't have to worry about hypothermia.
  22. KC, MO is setting up for the Cold weekend. Current conditions in St. Joseph, MO are 70 and Sunny. Earlier winds are dying down, but this is what my son and I have to look forward to camping with Cub Scouts this weekend: Sounds like they're starting to catch on to the idea of some wintry development middle of next week too. Earlier forecasts for this time period were warming and dry. Now there's this:
  23. Thanks for the warm welcome! I had actually never heard of Gary Lezak until finding this forum. The channel he's on in KC isn't broadcast here in St. Joseph, but I've begun following him on social media. I think the irony of all this is that my folks are still watching the Gulf for possible development! Personally, I'll stick with the snow!
