Dan the Weatherman

Yeah, it has been awfully boring as of late when we don't have much in the way of storminess to talk about. I hope we get into a wetter pattern as we go into December, or I fear we may be in for a dry winter. This fall so far hasn't felt very El Nino like, either.

The Santa Anas came up last night here in Orange, but were much weaker than the previous event.

No rain here in Orange today, either.

Hopefully the Santa Anas are weaker this time around. Last week's event was really strong here in Orange.

Do they have snowmaking equipment to make snow in case of late starts like this?

I'm sure he will be back when we finally have some weather other than sunshine, Santa Ana winds, or marine layer to talk about.

It could represent drought or a significant dry spell, or someone downplaying a wet forecast or who doesn't want it to rain when rain is needed.

I see a little fire in Riverside County well east of you, otherwise webcams all around the region show clear conditions. I don't know if this the fire you were smelling the smoke from or a small fire closer to you.

Santa Ana winds started blowing here in Orange sometime just after midnight.

I sometimes smell skunks at night here in Orange, and on occasion the smell can be really strong!

0.46" fell here in Orange with the first wave of the storm yesterday. Hopefully the Friday night / Saturday portion brings measurable rainfall as well! I can smell the difference in the air tonight as it is much damper and it is that classic damp smell that occurs during the late fall and winter months after significant rain events.

Most people interested in CA weather post over on Weather West, as that site is dedicated to California weather and climate. I do the majority of my posting over there, but I do post here from time to time and read these forums on a regular basis as well.

It has been raining here in Orange off and on since this morning, and it has been a decent soaking so far, even it hasn't been particularly heavy. I did hear a rumble or two of thunder earlier this afternoon.

Finally, we have some weather to talk about after quite a boring stretch of dry and warm weather!

I have noticed that the liquidambar tree (I think this is the same tree you are referring to) in my nextdoor neighbor's yard is still fully leafed out and has lost either very few leaves or no leaves at all.

I enjoy Weather West and post on there on a daily basis, since I live in Socal. That is the closest equivalent of a weather forum / blog for California as this forum is for the PNW in terms of weather and climate discussion and model riding. There is no other California oriented weather forum or blog I am aware of that is like WW.

The only problem I have with American Weather is that they don't focus much attention on the West Coast, including the PNW and California, unless that has changed recently.

The problem is that we are dealing with practically a cutoff low in the forecast. As the story goes: a cutoff low is a weatherman's woe (and a model's woe) as well! The pattern needs to become more progressive.

There has been little action on here because the pattern has been rather boring over the last week or two.

That would be a very beneficial storm for most of the West Coast if that verifies! Day 10 looks even better for CA.

It is going to get dark even earlier after next weekend when Daylight Savings Time ends.

You mean a lunar "eclipse" caused by the marine layer??

Sounds like it may be a snow bowl!! It would be the first one of the season if the forecast pans out.
