  1. Yeah, but your original comments seemed to under-estimate the number of really big snowstorms here. I can only assume you were going mainly off the airport data.
  2. Fair enough. But just keep in mind when you're evaluating 20"+ storms in Denver metro, we see a lot more than what the airport stats show.
  3. It's a little different, though. The Denver airport is way further away from the actual city of Denver than DCA is from DC proper.
  4. There's no doubt the mid Atlantic has seen a heck of a 20 year stretch for historic storms. But historically, you're right that they don't get really big snowfalls as often as we do around here. I consider anything over 18" to be really big. Of course, DEN's current location is poor for snow (they only got 13.1" with this last storm) and doesn't accurately reflect the metro area as a whole. To get a good idea of snowfall around the metro area from year to year, about halfway between Boulder and DEN's amounts gets you close.
  5. Could be. I've seen five 20"+ snowstorms and nine 15"+ since 2006. Historically, there's no doubt we crush I-95 cities overall. They have seen some historic storms in the past 15 years, but for major metro areas, Denver holds its own for big snowstorms.
  6. That would mean at least 60"/year on average. Right up there with Denver and SLC!
  7. How many 20"+ snowstorms has DC had since 2005? Not talking up in the hills, but the actual city.
  8. First pic was around 8 am, when I had 7-8". Rest of the pics are towards the end of the storm and this morning. For reference, my dog is 70 lbs and 28" tall.
  9. Yeah, this storm was nothing I haven't seen before in terms of temperature change, but it was by far the heaviest prolonged snowfall. The biggest storm total I've seen remains the Dec 2006 storm with 28", but that was over 2 days. This storm dumped 24" in about 12 hours.
  10. I have. Will post tonight. Ended up with about 2' at my house. Second biggest storm I've witnessed in my 9 winters here.
  11. Highway 36, the main highway between Boulder and Denver, is now shut down. So is the airport. Might have to crash at a co-worker's place tonight.
  12. Well, the storm slowed down. Legit blizzard conditions around the area, lost power at my house, and now lost it at the office. 8" when I left this morning, could end up with well over a foot from this thing. Big El Ninos almost always deliver a big spring storm here.
  13. 2010-11 was about the same -ENSO (at least from ONI perspective) as 2007-08, though, and that was a pretty good winter.
  14. Yup, to the east of here. Expecting 4-8" in the metro area, if downsloping isnt too strong. I could see this one being a bust, unless the storm slows down or drops a bit further south.
  15. Got up to 73 today after several well below normal days. Snow is, needless to say, all gone. However, in typical spring time in the Rockies fashion, another chilly storm moves in Tue night/Wed with some more snow likely.
  16. Nice. Low of 18 here...clouds kept it from getting colder.
  17. Ended up with 5". Lots of moderate snowfalls this cold season. The pattern coming next week looks fairly dynamic and tasty. Probably another decent storm in there somewhere.
  18. Under a WWA for 3-6" now, with up to 8" possible with bands. Already about 1" here in Boulder.
  19. Yeah, Sacramento has already had 200% normal precip for March and is about 120% of normal since Jan 1. March has made a huge difference for this season overall. Too many people were writing things off after a slow February.
  20. Looking like a nice little 2-4" storm Thu night/Friday morning. Still believe we'll see a big snowfall at some point in the next few weeks.
  21. My statement was about a major storm for CA. That just happened. I wasn't about to predict specific airport totals 2 weeks out.
  22. Nice! Calling major storms in CA within a week period is really just shooting fish in a barrel these days.
  23. Seems pretty likely that parts of CA will see a significant late season storm in days 6-8. Main question is how far south it goes.
