  1. I currently have 9.0" from this storm. Thinking I may be have a shot at 15/16" with 6/7 hours of the good stuff to go.
  2. Possibly banking on better snow ratios than what models are showing up that way?
  3. I just got back from camping in the Ottawa National Forest and it was depressing with the lack of snow/ice. Even if the NAM is right, the Northern areas need snow the most. The vintage snowmobile racing in Eagle River has already been pushed back to February.
  4. I sas hoping to go snowmobiling up in Eagle River the first week in January. Really starting to doubt if it's going to happen...
  5. Hot D**n good thing I flew in today. It's been awhile since we've had any snow on the ground during Christmas.
  6. I'm visiting my family in Wisconsin and may witness the largest storm of the season if we get 5" (not very likely). MKX is forecasting 2-5". I don't recall ever going a full season without getting 6+" in 24 hours.
  7. Figures... Once I fly back to Texas all the snow comes. Hopefully you all get half of those totals.
  8. So Jealous. I moved to San Antonio and our fall weather is 90°.
  9. More like a derecho, although by definition I don't think it can be classified as one. The stretch of 58+mph winds was limited to 3 counties, but the entire CWA saw 50-55 mph winds. 80,000 in the Milwaukee area still don't have power. I haven't seen anything like this.
  10. 106,000 people still without power in the Greater MKE area. Hopefully they can get it on before this evening.
  11. I'm very lucky to still have power (unfortunately no internet). The storms that rolled through S Wisconsin weren't fooling around. Multiple reports of 70+ mph winds. 130,000+ without power and widespread reports of trees down.
  12. I won't argue the death rates may be similar to a flu Pandemic, however, I've been under the assumption you've been claiming COVID is similar to a seasonal flu outbreak? So what are you exactly arguing? Also the article was first published February 28th.
  13. COVID 19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2 which is a positive sense SSRNA virus. Belongs with the Nidovirales. Influenza(s) is a Negative Sense SSRNA and belongs in the Articulavirales. Pretty big difference
  14. Every reputable public health official has been fighting the notion that this is like the flu. Death rates are different, Hospitals rates are different, genetic component is different. You just said it's helpful to compare new events with previous outbreaks. The problem is, the flu and COVID are caused by completely different viruses. They are not the same. Even when comparing this virus to its' cousin SARS, there are significant differences. There is a fine line when comparing viruses because viruses among different families act in a wide variety of ways. What worries me is how their is an active part of the population that activity believes they know more than the CDC, NIH, Doctors, Nurses, PHO, and the Surgeon General. Instead of focusing on the pandemic itself, these agencies now have to convince others, including government officials, that this threat is dangerous. This is what we deal with in Africa regarding Ebola and AIDS/HIV. Apparently, here too. If you think I - or majority of others- are using using this Pandemic for political reasons you are GREATLY mistaken. We follow the research and the science, not the media or politicians. Public health > Economy. Is the shutdown necessary? I don't have an answer to that. It might me, it might not be. Don't panic, just follow what health experts say. The lengths China went to in order to contain this virus should tell you just how serious this thing is dangerous. "Suicides, stress related deaths from heart attacks, increased risky behaviors and so on". - Well the same is true when you force people to work during a Pandemic. "Dr. Faucci keeps emphasizing that we really don't know and the situation is fluid". Exactly, expect the worst, even though it's unlikely. You can't play your chances with pandemics.
  15. Still with this flu nonsense... Yet no explanation why we're comparing two very different viruses.
  16. Agreed. It's more mild than MERS/SARS. Genetically COVID has more in common with MERS/SARS than the flu.
  17. But... It's not the flu... It's a more mild version of SARS. I can't say whether or not the shut down is worth it until everything is done. I find it interesting the UK and Netherlands initially relied on hurd immunity, but then proceeded to close everything. What made them do a 180?
  18. To be fair we have to assume the virus can happen year around since we have no evidence on the contrary. There is some evidence warm + humid conditions can slow the spread, but not nearly enough to assume anything.
  19. Very true. Mortality will end up being lower than currently advertised. However, COVID will still be more deadly than the flu, but less deadly than SARS. We'll have to wait and see where we end up.
  20. If you want to discuss, respond to my posts. How are you logically comparing annual numbers to weekly/month. Yes, there is a flu season, but the flu strikes year around. Why are you comparing COVID with the flu. COVID is in the same family as SARS and MERS. Not the flu.
  21. Do you actually believe in what you're saying? You're comparing COVID 19 with the flu, when the better comparison is COVID 19 with SARS. And China has never fudged it's numbers right? 9,100 dead in Italy in 2-3 weeks 4,000 dead in Spain in 2 weeks You see why hospitals are being overwhelmed? But hey, go ahead and disagree with every reputable governmental health organization and academia professor.
  22. 919 Italians have passed away in the past 24 hours. This is the largest amount of deaths we've seen come out of the country.
  23. Also, I don't get what you have against Chinese citizens immigrating to the US. Most of the immigrants from China are; legal, upper-middle class, highly educated, and wanting to live a Western style of life. But I won't change you're mind so oh well.
  24. All he said is Americans have the better end of the deal, which is TRUE.
