    it explans in part why the East coast winter was also reather blend to wrong Qbo phase in a nino winter west qbo El nino winters tend to suck there.on the other hand East qbo El nino winters tend to be pretty awesome.the oppersite to La ninas really.

    Phil a question for you.could one of the reasons why el ninos sucked and la ninas and cold neutul gave us big winters in the little ice age times could have played a part of the locations of the enso events meaning we had more often times east basin El ninos and La ninas as to oppose to the more recent trends?

    long story sort today's politics is a hot mess as for the winter this year very interesting and humbering pattern odd in alot of ways really.

    its been a really differcult one to predict as well really hard at times frustrating winter for forecasters which seemed to have been a winter that has just thrown off many of the mets for a loop this winter thats for sure.one to study upon for a long time.

    Strange winter according to stats Dca had all 3 months with Above average temperatures precipitation and snow fall I simply can't recall a stat quite like that then this winter.

    it's funny how many tends to beleave the El ninos being the east coast cold snowy winter's when in fact it a relative new trend of el ninos being blockbusters and !a ninas being the suck fests.it use to be as you said the other way around the ninos were the suck fests and the ninas were the blockbusters.

    Mike Masco was going with 9 inchs of snow in Baltimore last night that just bad forecasting period.

    this winter would not be as bad to deal with but the fact it was so hype up by so many of the pro mets and so much let down from the models is what makes this winter suck so badly at least for north and west this event looks to be varfing.

    also I also wonder if the models are erroring in the opposite fashion then they have been this winter.as the data seems to be catching up to the fact that the mjo maybe going into phases 8 through 1 along with the growing - sol if so perhaps we see a big ending in early march before the pattern gos to a true spring one mid march and after.but would be ironic how all winter models showed cold and storms and it never varifed and when they were not showing cold a few days ago and we finally get it would be a fitting end of this winter

    yeah it wouldn't surpised me eather if this winter throws a surpised at us with some sort of wild ending that not really modeled well.

    agreed if it not going to happen let have a real spring and move on from this debacle of a winter then maybe we get our solar min El nino and next winter proves to be the big one.

    agreed and especially this winter when models have not really been to relible on any thing past 2 days or so.

    this is very true if anything February has been the month that has what baffard many of the mets this winter if you were to tell half of them the west coast would have gotten slammed with winter many would have thought one would be crazy back in november when the winter outlooks went out most if not all the outlooks had the epic pattern in the East :lol:

    no wonder that this winter has been such a differcult one to forecasts giving the complicated signals.makes all of those outlooks back in November very when you look at it now.

    this winter in truth has had that neutral after la nina feel to it then one that is truely nino one.alot of the neuturl following la nina winters have trended to suck in our reagion .but what interesting is the following winters ended up being all out block busters so have to wonder if 2019-2020 follows that trend.

    we got lucky here mostly just rain but just north and west they got a legit ice storm. Classic 95 line with this one.

    this entire winter has been absurd the fact north Carolina and va have more snow then Boston this year is pretty laughable hect we even have more then Boston so far and that not saying much as so far it has been over all pretty pathica :lol:

    The problems so far this winter has been a mjo that has been out of phase with a warm enso event I think many in there fall winter outlooks went with a classic Nino type winter and that's where one could argue many got burnt on this winter as things were giving us clues this was not going to be a typical warm enso type of winter more of a fake boot but was largely missed by most.the fact north Carolina has more snow then alot of places in the northeast this winter is absurd those the 80s did have that quite a few times.

    what's funny phil is everyone includeing promets had all this cold in the east for this February not many had this kind of cold pattern in the west.it the winter that has pretty much threw alot of forecasters and long rangers through a loop.mother nature at her best reminding us that she still the boss and she going to do what she wants to do.

    alot of forums are declaring Winter over Im not sold based on the fact the last few years after a warm beginning of February winter came back mid late February and lasted through mid late March I can very easily see that happen once again.one thing for sure it has not been a very friendly winter for promets and long-range forecasters alot of promets even the most repectful ones have really scratched there heads on how this winter has behaved.you always get one where it throws everyone off at times.just gos to show while forecasting is getting better it not perfect and it still can humble you in the end.
