  1. Why is there always a hole with snow surrounding us. ?Is it the warm lakes this year moderating our temps.? Just curious and still learning here.
  2. Snow/mix here . Under a wind advisory now. Going to have to grab the cans before they end up at the end of the block.
  3. Also these storms are what we call a Chinook wind in the Northwest . Southern winds+warm temps+rain = suck. could melt 6 inches of snow in less than a day. We have patches now.
  4. @jaster220 about 5 years. So just new to the area. All relative , but bad winter here is still winter. It did snow, it did get cold, and we had snow over for over two weeks. I guess it is all relative. I know this is nothing compared to the UP and Northern Michigan, but when you have lived in an area for over 30 years where you wonder is it going to snow at all. I am beyond thankful especially this year when we had a white Christmas. What we are experiencing now with the temps/rain/wind is a Seattle winter. Sorry you had to experience these last two, first year I moved here in 2017 was something else. If these are duds , I can’t wait till we get a real winter. Maybe they come every 4 years, but they will come.
  5. In retrospect this winter has taught me a few things. 1. The warm winters in michigan it can still snow just not as much. 2. This winter has felt more like winters we experience in the PNW (west of the Cascades). 3. South Dakota was the place to be this winter. 4. Someone needs to turn down the magnet because we had a lot of Low pressures go right over us. 5. No matter how bad the winter was here I have seen snow every year.
  6. Same in western Washington, those years were awesome for snowfall. We had record cold in 1989. Froze our pool so thick we could walk on it. Then we cut the ice out of it and my Dad helped me and my brothers make an igloo out of it. We placed it on the North side of our house where it would last the longest. That igloo lasted till March. Awesome!
  7. Temp is 32 now. Streets are mostly clear of snow from the sun we had most of the day. Wind picking up and blowing the powder snow right off our roof. High of 10 tomorrow. What a rollercoaster of temps.
  8. There is no way our groundhog walked out and didn’t see her shadow. We have blue skies with full on sun. I call rigged! Lol!
  9. Suns out, snow on the ground and we have a brave bird making a nest between the gutters. Temp is 18.
  10. I think one thing we got going for us is the 6+ inch glacier from all the wet snow we have had. We might just survive the bump in temps for a while.. well hopefully.. Any rate just thankful to have snow on snow. Instead of rain on snow…. Big plus..
  11. My impression of the next three weeks is it’s going to be a royal rumble. Yeah we don’t live near a 50+ degree ocean anymore! Also never thought I would see rain in January in a state that is literally shaped like a Mitt.
  12. Most of the snow rode one county North kind of amazing as the band west was further south than us. Once it went over our area it would fizzle out so we had this constant mini dry slot set up. Never went above freezing in our area. Frustrating but yet interesting at the same time. This morning it looks like we got a little snow judging by the sidewalks getting covered. AFD: DTW Thus far, most of metro Detroit/Ann Arbor and points south have been void of precip. In fact some of this dry air has disrupted the intensity of snow across the north at times. A short wave impulse and additional lower tropospheric ascent will track across the entire forecast area this morning. This and some slight steepening of the mid level lapse rates will support showery precip across the south this morning. The elevated warm layer is expected to advance northward into Ann Arbor and Detroit this morning. The associated sfc low which looks to now track right across Detroit this morning will attempt to drive the sfc warm layer up to the I-94 corridor. Thus a mix of rain showers and freezing rain showers look likely. The brevity of the showers and with temps likely hovering around or just above freezing will limit icing potential.
  13. Yeah there have been too many of these storms pulling this behavior this season. Here hoping that our subforum can pull in some more winter fun.
  14. Looks like the extended is going to freeze this wet snow into a glacier.
  15. Lake is wide open for business . But no storms after this week. 14”. Big bucks no wammies!!!
  16. NWS: Snowfall report for SE Michigan. Pretty interesting track with the heavy snow amounts.
  17. I think in Portland they are not going to get any snow, but the cold is settling in. It’s the famous use all the moisture before the cold gets there scenario. Man that was frustrating live over there. Glad you are doing good in the snow dept. Just happy to see snow every year in this climate.
  18. Going to be a photo finish in Oakland county again. It’s interesting that our county always seems to be the battlefield when it comes to setups like these. Near M59 it can be a winter wonderland whereas south of I96 it can be different with just snow in the air or a mix. I am thinking maybe 2 inches here. Below is a good example of the battleground for snow setting up
  19. Drove to Novi for an appt this afternoon, went through a small snow squall. Visibility down to less than 1/4 mile. Pretty crazy.
  20. That dome reminds me of the Milwaukee dome in Oregon. Here’s hoping this pattern can break it.
  21. I think we picked up another inch from the snow yesterday and this morning . Looks like about 6 inches. Haven’t used this beast in two years. Two stage snowblower is perfect with this wet snow.
  22. About 3” here. We have snow plastered on our columns in front of our house. Wind is picking up and we have drifting on our porch.
  23. I watched the UPS truck fishtail on our street taking the corner. Would not want to drive in this stuff. Going to be and an ice rink in the neighborhood when we drop in the mid 20s.
