  1. It was actually quite sunny here in Orange late this afternoon and early evening, and actually clear tonight when I was outside earlier. The overcast has since rolled back in over the last hour or so.
  2. I think later this week we will see some sun if the forecast holds true. I am ready for some warmer weather as well!
  3. For a trace of rainfall to be a daily record just goes to show how dry this time of the year is.
  4. No rain or drizzle here in Orange right now. I don't think there was any drizzle here overnight, either, unless it wasn't enough to wet the ground.
  5. Solar eclipse by the clouds, that is. The moon is currently near first quarter now, so neither a solar eclipse nor a lunar eclipse can occur at this time.
  6. Unlike the previous night, there wasn't any drizzle here in Orange last night.
  7. I don't think the liquidambars will lose their leaves or change color from simply having the marine layer pattern dominant. I believe it has to get progressively colder with longer nights like what occurs in the fall before that process occurs.
  8. 0.06" fell here in Orange last night through early this morning with the drizzle.
  9. That's quite a rainstorm for the Denver area! There must have been quite a bit of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico that was entrained into the system. If that were a snowstorm, the totals would have been historic!
  10. Tis the season for the marine layer as we are in May Gray and June Gloom season. However, with the pattern expected next week, it may be somewhat sunnier than usual with less in the way of the marine layer for at least a few days.
  11. I agree. It has been a very active season in CA and even Socal has been getting significant rains and another big storm is likely for next week. The frequency of storms will likely decrease in April, but I feel CA, including Socal, will get at least average rainfall for the month, and even perhaps above average.
  12. It is common in late March and April for the marine layer to become more dominant after a storm passes, as the flow tends to remain onshore more frequently as we get into spring. However, if we get a cold storm, then it may clear after the storm for a while before the airmass modifies.
  13. Then you will probably be saying that it is too hot! Unless you enjoy the hot weather.
  14. I think you are correct that the telephoto lens has distorted the photo making the hills look much steeper. If that is the case, then it is a Photoshop job with the image of Ventura superimposed on another image with high mountains in the background.
  15. That shot that was posted above with the snow-capped mountains does not look like Ventura to me at all. Even the foothills behind the city with all the homes on it are too steep and too high for the area. The shot of the pier that Eujunga posted above is definitely Ventura, and you will notice that the background hills are considerably lower in elevation.
  16. It was in the mid-upper 60's here in Orange this afternoon. If it weren't for the clouds it probably would have reached 70. Where in the heck did that image of a PNW weather map below my avatar come from? I don't remember putting that there! Besides that, I don't even live in the PNW. EDIT: The image is part of my status as a "Longtimer" as I have noticed that other "Longtimers" on this forum have the same exact image under their avatar.
  17. I hope that leads to a good February for a change in CA as well. February has been absolutely abysmal in terms of the lack of good rains and mountain snow down here over the last decade except for 2017 and 2019. It has been a pretty good year for most of CA this season, but always could use more, as well as the rest of the West.
  18. It is time for La Nina to finally go away for a long while!! We have had too many La Nina years since the 2015-16 El Nino Bust-o-Rama.
  19. This Santa Ana wind event must have been oriented somewhat differently than usual, because the winds were not that strong here in Orange as they usually are in a strong event like this. It turned out to only be moderate as opposed to strong and didn't do any damage in my yard.
  20. Wow! The wind really kicked up at the end of the video and the visibility really took a hit, too! I wonder if a waterspout came ashore there by any chance, or was it just a strong thunderstorm? EDIT: I saw on the caption of the video that there was a tornado.
  21. It rained quite a bit here in Orange today. It started out light to moderate around 9:30 am or so, and became heavy at times in the mid-late afternoon and evening, before tapering off to lighter showers at night before coming to an end. I will check my rain gauge tomorrow and report how much fell. It does appear that it will dry out about mid-week onward, and there may be a Santa Ana at some point later in the week. I just hope this isn't the end of the rain for the season, and that we get more rain after a 1-2 week break.
  22. Welcome to the forum! It is nice to see some new CA bloggers on here! Another CA weather and climate blog you may enjoy if you are not already there is Weather West (weatherwest.com). I visit both sites on a regular basis, although I tend to post on Weather West more often than I do here since there more people there. I do hope that more people join on this forum as well, though!
  23. It has been a while since parts of Socal have received a soaking like this. This does happen on occasion, but in this case it is much-needed due to the drought conditions that have plagued the region off and on over the past decade, even though it has been a little too much in a very short time. Hopefully we continue to get storms for the rest of the season, but it would be nice to get some with lower snow levels so the mountain snowpack can be built up. I will admit that this pattern has been feeling very El Nino-like recently, despite still being in a La Nina, albeit a weakening one, and I have noticed that was mentioned on here recently as well.
