June 2024 Observations and Discussion
1993 like rainfall numbers up north the last 30 days with more on the way. You can clearly see @OttumwaSnomowlocation hopefully the missed area can land some storms before we get into July.- 1

June 2024 Observations and Discussion
My place is going to make a run at 100 degrees today for the first time this year. Models are mixed on if and how much rain may fall tomorrow, fingers crossed that we get a good drink. -

I have to say, I think it's time for one of these! BTW I'll post more links later. -

Here's some that I really like. The first one is for making nationwide precip and temperature maps back to 1895. The second one is for doing temperature and precip ranks for any part of the United States or the whole United States back to 1895. Very fun! NOAA/NCEI U.S. Climate Division Data Plots: NOAA Physical Sciences Laboratory Climate at a Glance | National Time Series | National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) (noaa.gov) For people who are into ENSO, this site gives current SST's, subsurface temps, OLR, 850mb U, 200mb U CPC - Climate Weather Linkage: El NiƱo Southern Oscillation (noaa.gov) This one is for making maps for many elements for many levels of the atmosphere from the surface to the stratosphere. It can be adjusted to view anything from the entire globe pretty much down to just your backyard. Maps can be made back to 1948 and can be set for normal, mean, and anomaly. Mt. Rainier Keeps Scientists Up At Night
The things they are discovering about the geology of this area are mind blowing, and downright scary to say the least. One of the jaw droppers is they discovered the bedrock south of the Seattle fault is very near the surface and even breaks the surface in a few spot. North of the fault the bedrock is over 3 to 4 miles deep. They think the remnant of an ancient plate that rammed into WA has actually been ripped apart with the part north of the plate diving underneath the North American Plate while the part south of the fault has ridden up over the NA Plate. Just downright ugly geology right there! I think the Seattle fault is WAY more dangerous than they have led us to believe. There is evidence of 20 to 30 feet of ground displacement during a quake 1100 years ago. There is a scarp visible in Seward Park in Seattle that provides dramatic evidence of that fact. They know of 6 quakes on that fault and there has never been nearly this long of a gap between the previous quakes...
