Oh and we have a cat... but he completely failed us! I was really disappointed in him.
But this rat was in the walls and ceiling so our cat had no chance to get him. In defense of our cat... we used to have moles digging up the yard constantly. We have not seen a mole mound for years since we got him.
Mice are dumb and easy to catch. Rats are way more clever and challenging and they have to chew to keep their fangs filed down so once they make themselves comfortable it gets ugly fast. We ended up sealing this rat out. I was hoping we would seal it in and then it would get desperate and go for the traps and then we would have closure. But this all started suddenly and ended just as fast when they finished sealing up the entry point. It all went quiet. No more leaks popping up every single day.
Wow! They can do so much damage so quickly. We had a rat as well about 6yrs ago. It had chewed through the wire mesh in the vent blocks to get into the crawlspace/mechanical room under the house. Heard it chewing in the walls by fireplace. Pest control caught it within two days and said the original owners didn’t use heavy enough gauge wire mesh, they redid all of the venting blocks so there is no longer anyway for them to get in. Luckily it didn’t do any damage and our water lines are copper.
And one of my current dogs is an avid hunter so not even mice or moles stand a chance around the house.
Really hoping for a mesoscale win tomorrow and tomorrow night. Late May and June could be really lush here in the city if we get good precip and cool down a bit. This sun has been predictably excellent for the leaf out
